Altra Federal Credit Union to offer APSU Student Half-Court Shot for One Year’s Tuition

 

Altra Federal Credit UnionClarksville, TN – Altra Federal Credit Union will offer one Austin Peay State University student the opportunity to win one year’s tuition up to $15,000 at half-time of the APSU men’s basketball game on Saturday, January 23rd at the Winfield Dunn Center.

APSU students may enter the contest January 1st through January 23rd at either of Altra’s two locations in Clarksville located at 1600 Madison Street or 2625 Wilma Rudolph Boulevard.

Temporary Weather Related Closure of LBL’s Turkey Bay OHV Area

 

Land Between the Lakes - LBLGolden Pond, KY – Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area and Trails, at Land Between The Lakes, is temporarily closed. The area recently received several inches of rain and freeze/thaw conditions are forecasted. To protect the resource, Turkey Bay will reopen when soil conditions improve.

Caution is recommended to anyone recreating in Land Between The Lakes, especially when hiking trails and driving back roads, due to saturated soil conditions.

NASA observes Extreme Weather across United States

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationGreenbelt, MD – NASA’s Global Precipitation Measurement or GPM mission core satellite analyzed extreme weather that affected the U.S. over the course of five days. Heavy rainfall, flooding and tornado outbreaks affected areas of the United States from the Southwest through the Midwest from December 23rd to 27th, 2015.

GPM is an international satellite mission between NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency to provide next-generation observations of rain and snow worldwide every three hours.

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announces Eight Year Driver’s License

 

Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland SecurityNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced beginning January 4th, 2016, Tennesseans will be able to renew their driver license every eight years instead of five years.  The change will include all classifications of driver licenses and identification licenses.

The legislation to increase the renewal years was proposed during the 2015 legislative session. Senator Nicely and Representative Goins introduced the bill to help decrease wait times and improve customer traffic flow at driver services centers.

The Governors come into the contest after a 74-70 defeat at home to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Monday night.

UT Vols Basketball rallies late to beat Tennessee State Tigers, 74-69

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A 9-0 run late in the second half helped to complete a dramatic come-from-behind victory for the Tennessee Volunteers, 74-69, over the Tennessee State Tigers on Tuesday afternoon at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Kevin Punter Jr. led UT (7-5) with 23 points, including a pair of free throws to seal the Vols final pre-conference game of the season in the final seconds. Detrick Mostella scored 16 points, the third time in his last three games that the sophomore has scored 13 points or more.

City of Clarksville Seeks Public Input on Safe Routes to School

 

Clarksville Parks and Recreation DepartmentClarksville, TN – A citizen’s input workshop to discuss a potential grant application and project will be held at Kenwood Elementary School, located 1101 Peachers Mill Road, on the evening of January 5th, 2016 beginning at 6:00pm.

The City of Clarksville is teaming up with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to seek federal/state funding to assist with providing students at the Kenwood School Complex better and safer routes by adding a series of wide sidewalks through Heritage Park and along East Pine Mountain Road.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – The #13/16 Lady Vols (8-3) return home for a game against Stetson (8-4) at Thompson-Boling Arena on Wednesday before beginning SEC play next week. Tipoff is slated for 7:00pm, and the game will be broadcast online on SEC Network + and WatchESPN.

UT has been off since carding a huge 53-50 road victory vs. #7/7 Oregon State on December 19th. That’s a full 10 days between contests. The Lady Vols returned from winter break on December 26th for shooting practice and a strength workout, and they resumed full practice on December 27th.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUBrentwood, TN – For the second straight week Austin Peay State University has a player named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.

Sophomore guard Josh Robinson was named OVC Player of the Week after leading the Governors to an 84-77 victory against Wofford, Tuesday. It came a week after Chris Horton earned the distinction.
