Nashville Sounds lose in 10 Innings to Memphis Redbirds 5-4

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds defeated the Sounds for the second straight evening, recording a 5-4, 10-inning victory over Nashville in front of 7,888 fans on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium.

The loss was Nashville’s second in a row following the club’s season-best five-game winning streak.

In the top of the tenth, Steven Hill got things started when he drew a one-out walk from Sounds reliever Juan Perez (4-2). Brock Peterson followed with a potential double-play grounder to shortstop but Edwin Maysonet airmailed Taylor Green at second base to allow runners on the corners with just one out.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Shelby Miller struck out nine over six strong innings as the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds handed the Nashville Sounds a 5-1 defeat in the opener of a season-ending four-game series.

The 21–year-old Miller (11-10) scattered five hits and walked none for his eighth quality start and eleventh victory.

The loss to the Redbirds snapped a season-best five-game winning streak and six-game win streak at home. The top three hitters in the Memphis lineup went a combined 9-for-13 with four runs scored.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Memphis Redbirds plated three runs in the top of the tenth inning and withstood a Nashville rally in the bottom of the frame to hang a 4-3 loss on the Sounds on Friday evening at Greer Stadium in the finale of a four-game series.

With the one-run defeat, the Sounds (48-58) missed an opportunity to record a sweep of their cross-state rivals as they fell to 4-5 in extra-inning action on the year.

Nashville Sounds beat Memphis Redbirds 7-2 for Third win in a Row

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Wily Peralta struck out a career high 11 batters as the Nashville Sounds handed the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds a 7-3 defeat on Thursday night at Greer Stadium.

The win gave Nashville its third victory of the series and ninth win in the 16-game season series to earn the Tennessee Lottery I-40 Cup Series.

With a 48-57 record, the Sounds are less than 10 games under .500 for the first time since May 27th when they were 20-29.

Shortstop Edwin Maysonet went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI, and run scored while Corey Patterson went yard for the second straight game.

Nashville starter Tyler Thornburg (1-0) picked up a victory in his Triple-A debut. The 23-year-old gave up two runs on five hits while striking out six with 66 pitches (49 strikes) in five innings of work.

Nashville Sounds drop close one to Iowa Cubs 3-2

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds snapped a four-game winning streak by falling to the division-rival Iowa Cubs, 3-2, in the finale of a four-game set at Greer Stadium.

It was a pretty good crowd for a Tuesday, as 7,881 fans took in the loss then watched the Sounds’ Independence Day fireworks spectacular following the on-field action.

With the loss, the Sounds (36-40) took three of four from the Cubs in the series. Nashville was held to five hits on the evening and went 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – Nashville Sounds catcher Jason Jaramillo homered and drove in three runs as the Sounds handed the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds a 5-4 defeat on Wednesday afternoon at AutoZone Park.

Nashville (26-41) took two out of three games from the division-rival Redbirds and netted its first winning series on the road this season. The one-run victory for the Sounds was also the club’s PCL-leading 15th of the season.

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – Memphis starting pitcher Nick Additon struck out a career high 11 batters over seven scoreless innings as the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds shut out the Nashville Sounds, 2-0, on Tuesday Night at AutoZone Park in the second game of a three-game series.

Additon (3-6) allowed just four hits for the win and was followed by scoreless innings from Redbirds relievers Adam Reifer and Jess Todd.

Sounds Drop Home Finale To Redbirds, 7-5

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds closed their 2011 regular season home slate with 7-5 loss to the cross-state-rival Memphis Redbirds on Sunday evening at Greer Stadium in the final of a five-game series.

A crowd of 5,222 fans were on hand for the contest, bringing the Sounds’ seasonal attendance total to 335,143, nearly 16,000 higher than last season. Nashville has seen an attendance increase in each of the past two seasons and has reached the 300,000-fan plateau for the 11th straight season.

The loss by Nashville (68-68) combined with an Omaha win tonight moves the Sounds’ elimination to one with eight games to play in the PCL American Conference Northern Division.

Sounds Plate Three Late Runs, Defeat Memphis 6-3

 

Nashville Wraps Up 2011 Home Slate Tomorrow Evening

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a late tie and post a 6-3 victory over the division-rival Memphis Redbirds on Saturday evening in front of 8,827 fans at Greer Stadium.

With the score knotted at 3-3, Nashville batted around against Redbirds reliever Jess Todd to register the game-winning three-run outburst.

Eric Farris led off the Sounds’ eighth with a single and moved to second on Mat Gamel’s opposite-field single through the left side of the infield. With one out, Caleb Gindl ripped a line-drive single to center to plate Farris with the go-ahead run. After an intentional walk was issued to Brandon Boggs to load the bases, pinch-hitter Andy Gonzalez gave the Sounds some breathing room with a two-run single to left that extended the lead to three.
