Austin Peay State University Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic set for Friday

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Governors and Chamber Community Golf Classic and Partner Celebration Dinner is Friday and pairings have been announced for the one-day, three-course tournament.

The event, which has seen APSU Athletics and the Clarksville Chamber of Commerce combined their two tournaments, will be played Friday at the Clarksville Country Club, Swan Lake Golf Course and The Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville, KY.

The shotgun start for the four-player, best-ball scramble is 10:30am at the three courses.

Sounds Win Fourth Straight, 9-4 Over Bees

 

Nashville SoundsSalt Lake City, UT – The Nashville Sounds continued their winning ways on Saturday evening at Spring Mobile Ballpark, hanging a 9-4 defeat on the host Salt Lake Bees.

The red-hot Sounds (17-24) extended their longest winning streak of the season to four games and have been victorious in eight of their past 10 contests.

The Nashville offense exploded for a season-high 15 hits, including eight for extra bases. The Sounds’ seven doubles on the night were one shy of the single-game franchise record.

Sounds Take Second Straight In Salt Lake, 5-2

 

Nashville SoundsSalt Lake City, Utah – The Nashville Sounds won their third straight game on Friday evening at Spring Mobile Ballpark, defeating the Salt Lake Bees by a 5-2 margin.

Sounds third baseman Chris Nowak (2-for-4) spotted the visitors a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, drilling Ryan Ketchner’s 3-1 offering over the left field wall for a one-out solo homer. It was the infielder’s first roundtripper of the year.

Salt Lake evened the contest at 1-1 in the home half of the fourth when Andrew Romine drew an inning-opening walk from Sounds starter Amaury Rivas then later scored on a groundout.

New Orleans Powers Past Sounds, 10-4

 

Nashville’s Win Streak Halted At Four

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The New Orleans Zephyrs belted four home runs en route to a 10-3 win over the Sounds on Friday evening at Greer Stadium, snapping Nashville’s four-game winning streak.

The crowd of 6,397 on hand pushed the Sounds’ seasonal attendance over the 300,000-fan plateau for the 10th straight season.

The Zephyrs’ four home runs on the evening matched their highest single-game total of the year.

The bottom of the New Orleans order did the majority of the damage as the visitors’ #5 through 8 hitters combined to go 11-for-19 with eight RBIs and seven runs scored on the evening.

Right-hander Brian Lawrence (11-8) worked a quality start for the Zephyrs to pick up the victory, holding the Sounds to two runs on six hits over seven innings of work. «Read the rest of this article»

Sounds Top Zephyrs, 7-3, Win Fourth Straight

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Ray Olmedo was a triple away from the cycle in the Nashville Sounds’ 7-4 victory over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Taco Bell Throwback Thursday at Greer Stadium in the second game of a five-game set.

It was the seventh time in the last 14 games that Olmedo produced multiple hits, as the veteran left-fielder went 3-for-4 with a home run and a double while driving in and scoring three runs out of the leadoff spot.

Nashville (70-62) has now won four consecutive games and eight of its last 11 contests, temporarily moving to 4.5 games behind first place Iowa in the PCL Northern Division.

The Sounds jumped on the board in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. After Adam Stern and Mat Gamel reached base, professional hitter Erick Almonte crushed a two-run double down the left field line to plate both runners as Gamel slid under Neil Wilson’s  the tag at home plate. «Read the rest of this article»
