Parker Phillips’ grand slam powers APSU Baseball to OVC Tournament win over UT Martin

APSU BaseballOxford, AL – Austin Peay State University baseball redshirt freshman catcher Parker Phillips‘ first-inning grand slam catapulted the Governors to a 6-2 victory against UT martin in the opening game of the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Championship, Tuesday night at Choccolocco Park.

With the win, Austin Peay (27-28) advances to the double elimination portion of the bracket and will face No. 2 seed Morehead State in a 7:00pm, Wednesday night.

APSU BaseballSouth Bend, IN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team starting pitcher Zach Neff struck out a career-high eight batters and first baseman Parker Phillips supplied a go-ahead two-run home run as the Governors secured a 5-3 victory against Notre Dame, Sunday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium.

Austin Peay (23-27) had two home runs in the contest, both supplying a lead.

Vice chair of the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) Emily Reynolds gave the keynote address.

APSU Baseball falls at Vanderbilt, 8-4

APSU BaseballNashville, TN –  Austin Peay State University’s baseball senior first baseman Dre Gleason hit a solo home run but the Governors could not overcome an early deficit in an 8-4 nonconference loss to Vanderbilt, Tuesday night at Hawkins Field.

Vanderbilt (27-17) proved opportunistic as it scored in each of the game’s first four innings. The Commodores capitalized on four walks and hit batsman in those opening frames, scoring four of those free passes while building a 6-1 lead after four innings.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – With its surging offense in tow, Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will get a finals week test when it meets Vanderbilt in a 7:00pm, Tuesday contest at Hawkins Field in Nashville.

The Govs bats pounded out 52 runs during last week’s four games while posting a .365 batting average and hitting eight home runs.

APSU Baseball bounces back for 8-5 win over UT Martin

APSU BaseballMartin, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball pitcher Alex Robles hit for the cycle and right fielder Chase Hamilton‘s three-run home run provided the game securing runs as the Governors bounced back to win a 8-5 contest against UT Martin in the second half of a doubleheader at Skyhawk Field.

Austin Peay (20-21, 11-12 OVC) entered the seventh inning holding a 5-4 lead and starting pitcher Alex Robles led off the frame with a triple that eluded the right fielder’s glove.

For a second straight game, Austin Peay (13-15) jumped on the board first.

The Govs and Redhawks enter the weekend tied for fifth place in the league standings with 4-5 records. Both teams lost their OVC set last weekend, APSU falling at home to Tennessee Tech while SEMO dropped a series at SIU Edwardsville.
