NASA projects examine COVID-19 and it’s effects on the Environment

NASA - National Aeronautics and Space AdministrationWashington, D.C. – While scientists around the world are confined to their homes during the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic, Earth observing satellites continue to orbit and send back images that reveal connections between the pandemic and the environment. “Satellites collect data all the time and don’t require us to go out anywhere,” Hannah Kerner, an assistant research professor at the University of Maryland in College Park, said.

Kerner is among eight researchers recently awarded a rapid-turnaround project grant, which supports investigators as they explore how COVID-19 Coronavirus lockdown measures are impacting the environment and how the environment can affect how the virus is spread.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Circumstances led John A. and Elizabeth A. Wyatt away from the classroom, but their hearts were never far from education — and Austin Peay State University — over the course of their lives.

“My father was born in 1912, and his mother passed away when he was just 17 years old, so he had to go to work at a young age to help support his family,” his son, Bill Wyatt, said. “But both of my parents were born and raised in Montgomery County and it was always in their nature to give back to the community and they loved Austin Peay.”

American Heart Association says Eating Healthier Fats could reduce Heart Disease Deaths Worldwide

American Heart Association Rapid Access Journal Report

American Heart AssociationDallas, TX – Eating healthier fats could save more than a million people internationally from dying from heart disease, and the types of diet changes needed differ greatly between countries, according to new research in Journal of the American Heart Association.

“Worldwide, policymakers are focused on reducing saturated fats. Yet, we found there would be a much bigger impact on heart disease deaths if the priority was to increase the consumption of polyunsaturated fats as a replacement for saturated fats and refined carbohydrates, as well as to reduce trans fats,” said Dariush Mozaffarian, M.D., Dr.P.H., senior study author and dean of the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science & Policy in Boston.
