Rounds Rock, TX – Chad Bell pitched for five scoreless innings as the Round Rock Express handed the Nashville Sounds a 5-1 defeat on Thursday night at The Dell Diamond.
The Sounds have dropped the first two games of the five-game series and 17 of their last 21 games at The Dell Diamond since the beginning of the 2010 season.
Bell (4-4) scattered five hits while striking out five in five frames for the victory.
Andy Gonzalez Homers To Provide Lone Offense For Nashville In Defeat
Round Rock, TX – The Round Rock Express evened their series with the Nashville Sounds by posting a 4-2 victory on Thursday evening at The Dell Diamond.
Third baseman Andy Gonzalez belted a two-run homer to account for Nashville’s lone runs on the night, while shortstop Jeff Bianchi went a team-best 2-for-4, his fifth multiple-hit effort in his last eight contests.
The loss dropped Nashville (32-49) to just 2-17 in games decided by two runs this season.
Dayton Buller Homers Twice for the Sounds
Round Rock, TX – Catcher Dayton Buller homered twice to power the Nashville Sounds to a 4-0 shutout victory over the Round Rock Express in the opener of a three-game series on Wednesday night at the Dell Diamond.
Four pitchers combined for Nashville’s PCL co-leading seventh shutout of the season, which also snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Express at The Dell Diamond.
Nashville Sounds Splits Four-Game Series With Round Rock Express
Nashville, TN – The Round Rock Express plated three runs in the top of the tenth inning to record an 8-5 victory over the Nashville Sounds in a Memorial Day matinee at Greer Stadium.
With the defeat, Nashville (20-30) missed a chance to record its third winning home series in the last four sets at Greer as the teams split their four-game holiday weekend series. The game was the Sounds’ seventh extra-inning contest of the year (4-3), which ties for the most in the PCL.
Round Rock, TX – The Round Rock Express scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to top the Nashville Sounds, 5-3, on Friday night at The Dell Diamond in the second game of a four-game set.
Sounds starting pitcher Sam Narron pitched seven scoreless frames before getting into trouble in the eighth inning, as Round Rock batted around and scored all five runs.
Esteban German reached on a fielding error to begin the rally and moved to second on a Joey Butler single. Matt Kata then cleared the bases with a double down the left field line to bring the Express within one run at 3-2. Narron got Kevin Cash to pop out and was removed from the contest for reliever Sean Green, who issued a walk to Julio Borbon. Round Rock went ahead at 5-3 as Omar Quintanilla tripled home Kata and Borbon, followed by a Mike Napoli RBI double.
Nashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds were held to only one hit on Thursday night at Greer Stadium, but it was a big one. Outfielder Brett Carroll crushed a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 1-0 victory over the Round Rock Express in the finale of a four-game set.
On the second pitch from Derek Hankins, Carroll blasted his ninth home run down the left field line to end the no-hit bid. The homer was Carroll’s second straight game with a homer.
With the win, Nashville (30-36) took three of four games from Round Rock in the series. All four games of the series were decided by one run.
Nashville Blows Late Five-Run Lead In Albuquerque
Albuquerque, NM – The Nashville Sounds endured a heartbreaking end to their road trip on Sunday afternoon at Isotopes Park, blowing a late five-run lead in a 16-14 loss to Albuquerque in the finale of a four-game series.
With the defeat, Nashville (27-35) dropped its third straight game to the Isotopes and wrapped up the road trip with a 4-4 record.
Trailing 14-9 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Albuquerque rallied to tie the contest with a five-spot in that frame against the Sounds’ bullpen then took the lead with two runs against Donovan Hand in the eighth to claim the come-from-behind victory.
Nashville Blows Two-Run Ninth Inning Lead, Drops 5th Straight Game
Round Rock, TX – The Round Rock Express erased a two-run deficit in the bottom of the ninth inning to hang a devastating 8-7 loss on the Nashville Sounds on Friday evening at The Dell Diamond in the opener of a four-game series.
The loss was the fifth in a row for the Sounds (9-18), who suffered their PCL-leading 11th one-run defeat of the year.
