Outfielder Khris Davis snapped out of an 0-for-16 slump to double twice. Shortstop Andy Gonzalez and catcher Dayton Buller each had two hits. Second baseman Eric Farris (1-for-4) singled to extend his hitting streak to seven games.

Ryan Spilborghs gave the Express a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run double. Two innings later, Matt Kata belted a solo homer in the fourth for the club’s third run.

Former Sound Brad Nelson led off the sixth with a solo home run for a 4-0 Round Rock advantage. The long ball was Nelson’s team-leading 22nd of the season. Robinson Diaz would tack on a two-out, RBI single later in the frame to conclude Round Rock’s scoring.

The Sounds loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, but only came away with one run in the process. Reliever Derek Hankins allowed an inning-opening walk and two singles before outfielder Logan Schafer hit a sacrifice fly to right to score outfielder Caleb Gindl.

Coming away with the loss in his second straight start, Nashville starter Tyler Thornburg (1-2) gave up three runs on three hits and a pair of walks in five innings of work. The 23-year-old also fanned six in 81 pitches, 50 for strikes.
