New Orleans, LA – The New Orleans Zephyrs scored a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to steal a 4-3 win over the Nashville Sounds Sunday night at Zephyr Field.
Nashville built a 3-0 lead on a strong pitching performance from Daniel Gossett and home runs from Franklin Barreto and Rangel Ravelo only to see the bullpen cough it up late.
Gossett allowed one run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings and was in line for the win in his second career Triple-A start before the ‘pen faltered.
Nashville, TN – BJ Boyd’s single in the bottom of the 11th inning scored Joey Wendle from second base to give the Nashville Sounds a walk-off 3-2 win over the Iowa Cubs in front of 7,450 fans Monday night at First Tennessee Park.
With one out, Wendle hit a bouncing ball up the middle for a single to give the Sounds a runner. His 14th stolen base of the season put him in scoring position.
After Rangel Ravelo worked a walk, Boyd lined a 1-2 pitch from Jose Rosario into left-center field for the game-winner.
Memphis, TN – The Nashville Sounds were crowned American Southern Division champions when they defeated the Memphis Redbirds, 5-3, Friday night at AutoZone Park.
For the first time since 2007, the Sounds are heading to the Pacific Coast League Playoffs. With the best record in the PCL (78-56), Nashville will look for its first league championship since the 2005 season.
It’s the fifth division title for the Sounds since joining the PCL in 1998. The franchise won the American East Division in 2003 and the American North Division in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Memphis, TN – The Nashville Sounds recorded their 10th shutout victory of the season in a 3-0 win Wednesday night over the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park.
With the Sounds win and the New Orleans win over Round Rock Wednesday night, the Sounds magic number for clinching the American Southern Division now sits at two games. The Sounds can clinch their fifth division championship since joining the Pacific Coast League in 2003 with a win Thursday night and a New Orleans loss.
Papillion, NB – The Nashville Sounds plated four runs in the seventh and eighth innings in route to their 13-7 win Sunday afternoon over the Omaha Storm Chasers at Werner Park.
For the second consecutive day, Jaycob Brugman and Josh Rodriguez led the Sounds to a win over the Storm Chasers. Brugman would go 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI and Rodriguez would club two homers in a 2-for-5 outing. Brugman’s four-hit night is his sixth four-hit game of the season with the Sounds.
Nashville, TN – Joey Wendle hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 5-2 win over the Tacoma Rainiers Wednesday afternoon at First Tennessee Park.
The win vaulted Nashville past Tacoma for the best record in the Pacific Coast League at 72-53. Entering play later tonight around the league, the Sounds’ magic number is at nine to clinch the American Southern Division.
Wendle 12th homer of the season came on the first pitch he saw from Tacoma starter Jarrett Grube. Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the sixth, Jaycob Brugman singled and Renato Nunez walked to put a pair of runners on for Wendle who hit it to the opposite field.
Nashville, TN – Arismendy Alcantara belted a two-run walk-off homer to lift the Nashville Sounds to a stunning 2-1 win over the Reno Aces in front of a sellout crowd of 10,172 Saturday night at First Tennessee Park.
Trailing 1-0 going into the bottom of the ninth, Joey Wendle started the rally when he drew a walk off Aces closer Jimmy Sherfy who came into the game having converted all 25 of his save opportunities in 2016.
Rangel Ravelo moved Wendle to second with a sacrifice bunt. He stayed there when Sherfy struck out pinch-hitter Colin Walsh for the second out of the inning.
Round Rock, TX – Hanser Alberto drove in five runs to lead the Round Rock Express to convincing 13-2 win over the Nashville Sounds Monday night at The Dell Diamond.
The 11-run loss is the most lopsided defeat suffered by the Sounds since Sacramento clubbed Nashville, 20-1, on August 25th, 2014.
After the Sounds (67-50) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after their third time up, Round Rock’s (56-61) offense erupted for three in the third, four in the fourth, three in the fifth and another three runs in the sixth.
Colorado Springs, CO – The Nashville Sounds won 5-2 in a rain-shortened contest over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Saturday night at Security Service Field.
Rain and thunderstorms rolled into Colorado Springs in the bottom of the sixth inning Saturday night. After retiring Lewis Brinson via a ground out, Sounds reliever Eduard Santos bounced a fast ball in the dirt with Garrett Cooper batting. Home plate umpire Alex Ortiz then quickly called for the tarp to be put on the field as they rain poured on Security Service Field.
Colorado Springs, CO – The Nashville Sounds held off a late Colorado Springs rally for a 5-4 win Thursday night at Security Service Field.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, Sounds reliever Eduard Santos worked himself out of a jam. Santos got Sky Sox Andrew Susac to hit a ground ball to Chad Pinder who stepped on second to preserve the 5-4 Sounds win.
J.B. Wendelken started the Sounds ninth as he came on with two outs in the eighth inning to replace Angel Castro as the Sounds lead 5-2. Josmil Pinto led off the ninth with a walk to start the Sky Sox rally. Wendelken then settled himself and promptly struck out the next two batters in Michael Reed and Yadiel Rivera.
