Virtual Forum on Diversity Recently Held for Middle School, High School Students

 

Montgomery County Government TennesseeMontgomery County, TN – Earlier this month, Montgomery County Government, Austin Peay State University (APSU), Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) and Spring Forth Counseling Center collaborated to host a virtual forum for a diverse group of middle and high school students.

The purpose of the forum, called Turning the Talk, was to provide an outlet for the students, rather than the adults, to take the lead in a candid conversation about social injustice and how they have seen it affect them and others.

If Austin Peay Could Talk: Eva’s Story

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – No one had to tell me I was Black. I distinctly remember the day that I was treated as less than due to the color of my skin.

I recall my time in a convenience store when the white clerk intentionally skipped me to assist the next white customer in line. I was shocked, hurt and silenced.

APSU professor Dr. Deborah Buchanan named Counselor Educator of the Year

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s Dr. Deborah Buchanan, an assistant professor and program coordinator in the University’s Department of Psychology, was recently honored for her excellence in preparing the next generation of school counselors.

Buchanan was selected as the Counselor Educator of the Year by the Middle Tennessee Counseling Association (MTCA) at the group’s annual award banquet in early May.
