Nashville, TN – Following a one-point victory in the Wild Card Round, the Tennessee Titans (10-7) travel this week to face the reigning Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots (13-3) in a primetime Divisional Round matchup. Kickoff at Gillette Stadium (capacity 66,829) is scheduled for 8:15pm ET/7:15pm CT on Saturday, January 13th, 2018.
This is the third time the two franchises have met in the postseason, having split the previous two outings. The last time was January 10th, 2004, when the Patriots edged the Titans 17-14 in the bitter cold of Foxborough, MA.
Nashville, TN – In Week 15 of the 2013 season, the Tennessee Titans hosted the Arizona Cardinals at Nissan Stadium in a game that went to overtime. Despite storming back from a 17-point fourth quarter deficit, the Titans’ rally fell short as Cardinals kicker Jay Feely connected on the game-winning 41-yard field goal in overtime to push Arizona past Tennessee, 37-34.
Trailing 34-17 with 3:12 remaining, wide receiver Michael Preston kickstarted the Titans’ comeback with his first touchdown of the game, a 10-yard strike from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Nashville, TN – This week’s game renews a rare rivalry between the Tennessee Titans and the Arizona Cardinals. Of all opponents that have been in existence since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, the Cardinals have played the Oilers/Titans the fewest amount of times—10 games total. The Cardinals lead the series 6-4, including a win in the most recent matchup in 2013.
There have been just three Titans-Cardinals games (2005 and 2009) between the clubs in their current incarnations—the Cardinals played in St. Louis from 1960-87 (they played in Chicago prior to that), and the Titans were the Houston Oilers (1960-96) and Tennessee Oilers (1997-98) prior to taking their current name in 1999.
