#18 Tennessee Men’s Basketball scorches #15 Kansas, 80-61

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A 53 percent shooting performance and a dominant rebounding effort pushed the 18th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers basketball team past No. 15 Kansas, 80-61, on Saturday at Thompson-Boling Arena. The victory clinched this year’s SEC/Big 12 Challenge for the SEC, 5-4.

The Volunteers (12-3) ripped down 38 rebounds, out-rebounding the Jayhawks by 15 and holding Kansas (11-6) to zero second-chance points.

Tennessee was also lights out from both 3-point range (8 of 13) and the foul line (16 of 17).

Tennessee Vols Basketball loses at #3 Kansas, 74-68

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsLawrence, KS – Despite a career-high 24 points from junior Yves Pons and a third double-double in five games from junior John Fulkerson, solid late free-throw shooting led third-ranked Kansas past the Tennessee Vols basketball team, 74-68, Saturday at historic Allen Fieldhouse.

The matchup was part of the 2020 Big 12/SEC Challenge. The Vols fell to 12-7 on the year, while Kansas improved its record to 16-3.

Pons’s 24 points were the most points scored by a Vol in UT’s all-time series with Kansas. He finished the afternoon 8-of-14 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.

Tennessee Vols Basketball rolls Ole Miss, 73-48

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – A dominant offensive performance, highlighted by John Fulkerson’s double-double, resulted in a Tennessee Vols basketball 73-48 victory over Ole Miss Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. The win marked Rick Barnes‘ 100th victory as Tennessee’s head coach.
 
The Vols’ victory elevated the team to 12-6 (4-2 SEC). Ole Miss fell to 9-9 (0-5 SEC). 
 
Fulkerson had a hot hand from the start Tuesday, scoring 16 points alone in the first half–giving him the highest-scoring half of his career.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors Athletics 2016 Year in review

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – With the calendar changing from 2016 to 2017 this week let’s look back at the past 12 months and the accomplishments of the Governors Athletic Department this past year.

Things got rolling at the end of February when the men’s and women’s basketball teams both made the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

Earning a stop in the tournament ended a three-year postseason drought for the men’s basketball team.

APSU Baskeball GovsDes Moines, IA – APSU found out why Kansas is ranked No. 1 in the country, Thursday.

The Jayhawks used a 16-4 first-half run and were never headed as Austin Peay State University fell, 105-79, in South Region men’s basketball action played at the Wells Fargo Arena. The 31-4 Jayhawks will advance to play UConn in the Round of 32, Saturday.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUDes Moines, IA – Austin Peay State University’s magical late-season run has taken it west and if this Cinderella story is to continue the Governors hope Wells Fargo Arena becomes their “Field”, err, “Court of Dreams,” 3:00pm, Thursday, against No. 1 Kansas in first-round NCAA Regional action, to be broadcast by TNT.

Playing in their first NCAA tournament since 2008, the Governors enter Thursday’s game amidst a six-game winning streak, their longest win streak since the 2010-11 season.
