APSU’s TRiO program honors its 2016 Winter Graduates

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – A week before Austin Peay State University hosted its winter commencement ceremony, a small celebration took place on the second floor of the Morgan University Center.

While jazz music played lightly in the background, eight students who participated in the University’s federally funded TRiO Support Services program were honored for their perseverance during a graduate recognition ceremony.

Altra Federal Credit Union to hold Financial Aid Night at Clarksville Montgomery County Public Library January 26th, 2015

 

Altra Federal Credit UnionClarksville, TN – Altra Federal Credit Union will host a free Financial Aid Night for High School Juniors, Seniors and parents on Tuesday, January 26th at 6:00pm at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Library located at 350 Pageant Lane.

“Our Financial Aid seminars are offered to families to learn the basics of the FAFSA application, discuss possible grants and scholarships, and help answer questions that students or parents may have about the Financial Aid process,” says Danielle Anderson, Youth Coordinator for Altra Federal Credit Union.

Austin Peay State University TRiO SSS program receives five-year, $1.3 million federal grant

 

Austin Peay State University - APSU - logoClarksville, TN – In 1998, Austin Peay State University initiated the TRiO Student Support Services program—a federally funded program designed to help those students who are first-generation college students, disabled or who come from low-income backgrounds.

APSU’s Student Support Services (SSS) has assisted thousands of students in the last 17 years, and the program will continue to serve even more thanks to the recent awarding of a five-year, $1.3 million U.S. Department of Education grant.

LEAP and Clarksville Housing Authority Host Block Party in Lincoln Homes

 

LEAP OrganizationClarksville, TN – On a crisp October Saturday LEAP organization in collaboration with the Clarksville Housing Authority hosted a Block Party in Lincoln Homes. Laughter could be heard as you approached the block party. It was coming from dozens and dozens of children enjoying free hot dogs, popcorn, and ice cream as well as playing games, jumping in the inflatables provided by A Jump’n Good Time, and live music from DJ Greedy.

LEAP Site Lead Dorlisha White spearheaded the event with the help of Martha Witherspoon of the Housing Authority.

APSU Educational Opportunity Center awarded $1.8M Grant

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Austin Peay State University a $1.8 million grant to continue funding the successful Educational Opportunity Center (EOC).

The EOC received funding for five years, from 2011–2016, for $373,614 per grant year. The EOC funding falls under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and is part of the TRiO Programs. The program is designed to assist low-income adults in entering college by helping them to overcome class, social and cultural barriers to higher education. «Read the rest of this article»
