APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Mother Nature forced Austin Peay State University’s baseball team to both change its opponent and hit the road for its season-opening weekend.

The Governors, who were originally scheduled to play Maryland Eastern Shore in Clarksville, now will open 2018 with a three-game series against South Dakota State, Friday-Sunday, at Saint Louis University’s Billiken Sports Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team has canceled this weekend’s series against Maryland Eastern Shore at Raymond C. Hand Park due to forecast inclement weather.

Instead, the Governors will now travel to St. Louis for a three-game series against South Dakota State at Saint Louis University’s Billiken Sports Center.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team opens its regular season this coming weekend, February 16th-18th versus Maryland Eastern Shore, at Raymond C. Hand Park looking to prove the pre-season pollsters wrong in their picking the Govs to finish well down in the standings in the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Governors, who finished the 2017 season 28-30 overall and 13-16 in OVC, were picked to finish seventh by the league’s head coaches and sports information contacts and well behind league favorite and defending champion Tennessee Tech – who received 15 of the 22 total first-place votes in the pre-season poll.

Friday’s practice and scrimmage kicks off a three-week run up to the Governors Opening Day, February 16th, against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Governors spring sports begin despite current winter wonderland

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Despite the current below-freezing temperatures and ice and snow on the ground, Austin Peay State University saw the first of its spring sports begin their regular-season schedule’ this past weekend, with more teams to soon follow.

The Governors women’s tennis team kicked-off the APSU spring schedule with a trip to Middle Tennessee on January 14th, with the Govs falling to the Blue Raiders, 5-2, in the first meeting between the two schools since 2015.

APSU Baseball releases 2018 Game Schedule

APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Contests against Clemson, Kansas State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt highlight the 2018 Austin Peay State University baseball schedule, released Friday.

Under head coach Travis Janssen, who enters his third season at Austin Peay, the Governors will face a 56-game slate beginning February 16th against Maryland-Eastern Shore at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay State University releases APSU Lady Govs 2015 Softball Schedule

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will play four in-season tournaments, including their first home tourney since 2011, while totaling 29 home games to highlight its 2015 schedule.

“We’re looking to compete a little bit better this year and I think our schedule shows that,” Austin Peay coach Stephanie Paris said. “It’s not going to hurt us to play great teams before we get into Ohio Valley Conference play, so we’re looking at going to some tournament to play some high-caliber teams and getting tested a little bit early.”

Former APSU Football Coach James “Boots” Donnelly selected to National Football Foundation (NFF) Division College Hall of Fame

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – The only coach to lead Austin Peay State University football to an Ohio Valley Conference championship has been selected to the 2013 National Football Foundation (NFF) Division College Hall of Fame.

James “Boots” Donnelly, who directed APSU to the 1977 OVC Football Championship during his two-year Governors stint before building Middle Tennessee into a then 1-AA football powerhouse, was one of seven members of the NFF Division College Hall of Fame Class that includes the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions II, III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
