APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball begins its first road trip of the season when it meets nationally-ranked Vanderbilt in a 4:30pm, Wednesday contest at Hawkins Field in Nashville, TN.

The Governors hit the road after picking up their first two wins of 2019, sweeping a Sunday doubleheader against Northern Illinois.

APSU earns 11 OVC Medals of Honor; two team captured OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsAustin Peay State University student-athletes earned 11 Ohio Valley Conference Medals of Honor while two teams, women’s golf and men’s tennis, captured OVC Team Academic Awards, announced Thursday by the conference office.

The Medal of Honor is awarded annually to student-athletes who achieve the highest grade-point average in a conference-sponsored sport.  Each one of the APSU recipients held a 4.0 grade-point average in their respective sport for the year.  Heading the list is a pair of senior women’s track and field ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans, Carrie Burggraf (first team) and Shamai Larsen (second team). Govs wrap season with sweep of UT Martin

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University’s  baseball team wrapped up its 2010 schedule with an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader  sweep of UT Martin, Saturday. The Govs won the opener 9-3 before holding on to win the season finale, 11-9.

Austin Peay (27-25, 8-13 OVC) used a six-run third inning to break open the day’s first game. Ten Govs batters came to the plate and the first six batters reached base safely. Designated hitter Matt Kole, first baseman John Hogan, catcher Trey Lucas and third baseman Shayne Martin each batted in a run with shortstop Reed Harper closing the rally with a two-run double. «Read the rest of this article»

Baseball: Govs rally twice to down Bisons in extra innings

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University’s baseball team needed extra innings but completed a come-from-behind 8-7 victory against Lipscomb, Tuesday night, in non-conference action at Dugan Field.

Austin Peay (25-25) scored five runs in the eighth inning to erase a 5-2 deficit. Outfielder Adam Browett’s leadoff home run began the eighth frame. Lipscomb reliever Alex Ross was able to retire the next two batters, but could not close out the inning. The next three Governors reached base before second baseman Chris Lewellyn’s bases-loaded walk. Baseball: Govs meet Lipscomb to close out non-conference slate

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University’s baseball team will close its current 10-game road trip when it meets Lipscomb in a 6:00 pm, Tuesday contest at Dugan Field that will be the team’s final non-conference tilt in 2010.

Austin Peay (24-25) is 2-8 during its current road trip which stretches back to an April 28th contest at Belmont. APSU Baseball: Govs fall at Belmont

 

APSU Governors LogoNASHVILLE – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team fell behind early and could not forge a comeback, falling 5-3 to Belmont in non-conference action at Shelby Park.

Austin Peay (22-18) scored three runs in its half of the first inning to take the early lead. Center fielder Jared DeLong walked with one out and moved to second on designated hitter Matt Kole’s single. Both runners would score on left fielder Adam Browett’s triple off the right center field wall. Browett would himself score courtesy first baseman John Hogan’s sacrifice fly.

APSU Baseball: Govs-Bruins meet in battle of .500 clubs

 

APSU Governors LogoTwo teams sitting at .500 will meet when Austin Peay State University’s baseball team hosts Belmont in a 6 p.m., Tuesday non-conference contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Austin Peay (18-18) has fallen back to .500 with six losses in its last seven contests. The Govs stopped a five game losing streak courtesy a doubleheader split against Jacksonville State, Saturday, but dropped the series finale, Sunday. Austin Peay stood five games above .500 on April 7.

Junior right-hander Eric Davis (1-1) will look to recover from a shaky outing in his last appearance, April 13 against Western Kentucky. He brings a 7.64 ERA into Tuesday’s contest, which will be his season’s fifth start, and has struck out 19 batters in 33 innings, walking 16.

APSU Baseball: Govs host nationally-ranked Western Kentucky, Tuesday

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University’s baseball team begins an eight-game homestand when it hosts No. 19 Western Kentucky in a 6 p.m., Tuesday contest at Raymond C. Hand Park.

Tuesday’s contest will be the second game of the home-and-home series between the Govs and Hilltoppers. Western Kentucky won the season’s first meeting, 14-7, March 2, after coming back from deficits of 5-0 and 7-2.

Austin Peay (17-15) returns home following an up-and-down eight game road trip which it finished with a 3-5 record following a three-game sweep at Eastern Kentucky last weekend. The Govs have won their last four midweek contests.

APSU Baseball: Govs offense continues hot streak in win at Middle Tennessee

 

APSU Governors LogoMurfreesboro – Another night, another offensive outburst as Austin Peay State University’s baseball team posted a season-high 22 hits en route to a 19-13 non-conference victory against Middle Tennessee, Wednesday night at Reese Smith Field.

Austin Peay (16-10) won its third-straight road contest after winning just one of its first eight. The Govs also set a season-high in hits for the third consecutive game and have now posted 58 hits in those three games.

Middle Tennessee (18-11) grabbed an early 3-1 lead courtesy outfielder Justin Guidry’s three-run home run in the first inning. The Blue Raiders extended their lead to 4-1 on third baseman Tyler Burnett’s RBI double in the second.
