Nashville Sounds defeat Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park, 6-5

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Nashville Sounds pitcher Tim Dillard goes seven stellar and infielder Nick Solak drives a pair of home runs to lead the Sounds to a 6-5 win over the Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park Friday night.

In Dillard’s third appearance in the last seven days, he limited the Cubs to two runs on five hits. He issued one walk and struck out four in his sixth win of the year. 

The offense helped Dillard with four home runs – two from Solak in his First Tennessee Park debut, and one each from Andy Ibanez and Patrick Wisdom. Ibanez started the power display right away in the bottom of the first when he lined a pitch from Matt Swarmer into the left field seats to give the Sounds a 1-0 lead.

Nashville Sounds loses Thursday night to San Antonio Missions

 

Nashville SoundsSan Antonio, TX -The Nashville Sounds jumped out fast, but faded late in 5-3 loss to the San Antonio Missions Thursday night. That completed the sweep for the Missions over the Sounds.

Nashville took the early lead in the top of the first inning. Zack Granite led off with a double and scored on a single by Scott Heineman. He later scored on a single by Nick Solak to give the Sounds a 2-0 lead.

Shelby Miller made the start for the Missions in his first pitching appearance since June 25th with the Texas Rangers before being released. He threw 40 pitches in the first inning and 28 pitches in the second inning.

Nashville Sounds suffer 6-4 loss at Iowa Cubs

Nashville SoundsDes Moines, IA – Matt Davidson and Willie Calhoun belted home runs for the Nashville Sounds but it wasn’t enough in a 6-4 loss to the Iowa Cubs Wednesday night at Principal Park in Des Moines.

Davidson’s solo blast came in the second inning and was his fifth of the season. Calhoun’s was a three-run shot in the top of the ninth to make it interesting. It was Calhoun’s fourth long ball of the season with Nashville.

Iowa got on the board right way against Nashville starter Phillips Valdez. With two outs and runners at first and second in the opening inning, Cubs’ third baseman Cristhian Adames singled to left field but the ball got past Calhoun and to the wall. Both runners came around to score to help Iowa build an early 2-0 lead.

Nashville Sounds beat Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park, 8-2

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Chase d’Arnaud clubbed a two-run homer and Ariel Jurado dealt five solid innings as the Nashville Sounds rolled to an 8-2 win over the Iowa Cubs in front of 7,823 fans at First Tennessee Park Friday night.

Nashville collected 11 hits on the night, led by multi-hit performances by Danny Santana, Carlos Tocci and Eli White. The trio reached base safely nine times in the win.

Tocci helped start the scoring immediately in the bottom of the first inning when he led off the home half of the inning with a base hit to left-center. Willie Calhoun walked to put two on for the Sounds, and two batters later the pair pulled off a successful double steal of second and home.

Iowa Cubs shut down Nashville Sounds at First Tennessee Park, 4-0

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Iowa Cubs starter Matt Swarmer turned in a brilliant performance to help the Cubs to a 4-0 win over the Nashville Sounds in front of a sellout crowd of 10,913 at First Tennessee Park Saturday night.

Called up from Single-A South Bend Saturday afternoon, Swarmer tossed seven shutout innings and limited the Sounds to only four hits. The chances against the right-hander were few and far between.

Nashville had two hits through the first four innings – a single by Josh Phegley in the first, and a single by Matt McBride in the third.
