Clarksville, TN – Austin Peay head football coach Kirby Cannon felt his team may have lost the battle, August 30th in their season-opener versus Memphis University, but despite the 63-0 final margin saw more than a few good things that they will build on as they move forward into the season.

Memphis, TN – The Memphis Tigers scored on its first six offensive possessions, including five rushing touchdowns, as Austin Peay State University lost its season opener, 63-0, a contest played Saturday night at the Liberty Bowl.
It was APSU’s fourth straight season-opening loss—all to Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams. The Govs last season-opening win was a 38-6 home victory against Cumberland in the 2010 season.

Clarksville, TN – On Saturday, August 30th, 2014, the Austin Peay State University football team kicks off the 2014 season on the road against the Memphis Tigers at the Liberty Bowl. Kickoff is at 6:00pm.
This contest begins the second season of the Kirby Cannon Era. After the Govs went 0-12 in their first season under Cannon, APSU’s roster has undergone a huge makeover, with 38 freshmen or redshirt freshmen comprising the roster and making the Governors an extremely young team.
Memphis, TN – Ball-handling and perimeter defense conspired to doom Austin Peay State University men’s basketball team in its Thursday night tilt at Memphis. The Govs fell to Memphis, 95-69, in the road opener at FedExForum.

Teeth were gnashing, the talk show phone lines were lighting up after Memphis, a preseason Top 20 team, got off to a 2-2 start.

Memphis, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team led for six innings but could not hold on as the Memphis Tigers won in walk-off fashion, 3-2, Tuesday night at FedEx Park.
Memphis (6-10) rallied from a 2-0 deficit, tying the game in the sixth, before piecing together the game-winning rally in the ninth.

Clarksville, TN – This is Austin Peay’s 75th season of college football, including nine non-scholarship seasons (1997-2005). They enter the contest with a 271-468-16 record.
Austin Peay has enjoyed only 18 winning seasons in 74 years of football and only two winning seasons since the turn of the century–a 7-5 mark in 2002 as a non-scholarship program and a 7-4 record in 2007 in Rick Christophel’s first season.
After owning a school-record 26 seniors in 2009, the Govs had half that many (13) in 2010. This season the Govs have even fewer, eight.
