Nashville Sounds get 4-3 Win Over Iowa Cubs in Home Opener

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds opened their final homestand of the season with a 4-3 victory over the division-rival Iowa Cubs on Monday at Greer Stadium.

The one-run victory was Nashville’s PCL-leading 28th of the season. Iowa suffered its 32nd one-run defeat. Seven of the 13 games between the two clubs in the series have been decided by one run.

Nashville starter Brian Baker pitched well to collect his fourth victory of the season. The 29-year-old allowed one run on a solo homer in six innings of work, fanning six in 82 pitches (60 strikes). Baker has posted a 2.62 ERA (18er/61.2ip) in his last 12 PCL outings (10 starts).

Nashville SoundsRound Rock, TX – The Nashville Sounds plated six runs in the top of the ninth inning, capped by a two-run Eric Farris homer, to record an 11-5 victory on Sunday evening at The Dell Diamond in the club’s final road game of the season.

The Sounds (63-73), who rapped out 15 hits and were not retired in order in any of the nine innings in the contest, recorded their 23rd last at-bat win of the season to finish their final road trip with a 4-5 record. The 11 runs marked just the fourth double-digit scoring total for Nashville this year.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Albuquerque outfielder Jerry Sands belted a pair of grand slams and drove in 10 runs on the night to power the Isotopes to a doubleheader sweep of the Nashville Sounds on Sunday evening at Greer Stadium.

Sands delivered a game-winning two-run double to lift the ‘Topes to a 4-2, extra-inning win in the opener before capping his night by tying a PCL record with two grand slams off Seth McClung in the nightcap.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Albuquerque Isotopes rapped out 17 hits en route to a 13-3 defeat of the Nashville Sounds on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium in front of 9,249 fans in the opener of a five-game series.

Third baseman Alex Castellanos belted a pair of homers and drove in five runs and Jerry Sands went 4-for-6, including a longball, to pace the Isotopes offense.

Trailing 2-1 with two outs in the top of the sixth inning, Albuquerque erupted for 12 runs over the final four frames.

In his first game with the Sounds and fifth overall during his rehab appearance, catcher Jonathan Lucroy went 3-for-4 with and RBI and three runs scored. The three runs scored matched a season-high by a Sounds player this season.

New Orleans Zephyrs five run rally in the eight sinks Nashville Sounds

Nashville SoundsMetarie, LA – A late five-run rally by the New Orleans Zephyrs gave the visiting Nashville Sounds a 7-4 defeat on Monday evening at Zephyr Field in the finale of a four-game set.

With the Sounds leading 4-2 in the eighth with two outs, the Zephyrs batted around against three Sounds pitchers, highlighted by a Nick Green two-run single and Kevin Mattison two-run double against pitcher Tim Dillard (0-1).

With the loss, Nashville (45-57) split the series with New Orleans and lost the season series between the clubs by a 9-7 margin.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds dropped their second straight game to the Round Rock Express, falling 8-5 on Wednesday evening at Greer Stadium.

With the defeat, the Sounds (42-55) suffered their first consecutive losses since late June.

All-Star outfielder Joey Butler paced the Express’ offensive attack with a 5-for-5 night that included an RBI and three runs scored. It marked the first five-hit effort by an opponent against Nashville this season.

The Express scored two runs in the ninth to force the game to extras and later won the game thanks to three straight hits from Joey Butler, Tommy Mendonca, and Luis Hernandez off Amaury Rivas (4-6).

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Outfielder Matt Angle homered and drove three as the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes blanked the Nashville Sounds, 7-0, in the opener of a four-game series on Friday night at Greer Stadium.

The shutout loss was Nashville’s seventh of the season and also snapped a three-game winning streak.

Isotopes starter Fernando Nieve (5-6) allowed four hits over six shutout innings for a quality start and victory.

Doubleheader Scheduled For Saturday Evening

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Tonight’s scheduled homestand opener at Greer Stadium between the Nashville Sounds and Albuquerque Isotopes has been postponed due to unplayable field conditions resulting from heavy rains throughout Middle Tennessee this week.

The game will be made up as part of a 6:05pm doubleheader on Saturday evening, when the two teams will play a pair of seven-inning games.
