Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Outfielder Matt Angle homered and drove three as the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes blanked the Nashville Sounds, 7-0, in the opener of a four-game series on Friday night at Greer Stadium.

The shutout loss was Nashville’s seventh of the season and also snapped a three-game winning streak.

Isotopes starter Fernando Nieve (5-6) allowed four hits over six shutout innings for a quality start and victory.

Outfielder Corey Patterson had two of Nashville’s four hits. Second baseman Eric Farris and outfielder Caleb Gindl also singled.

After Angle singled in the second, Brian Cavazos-Galvez gave Albuquerque a 2-0 lead with a two-run shot over the left field wall. The long ball was his sixth of the season.

Angle added to the Albuquerque lead with a solo homer over the right field wall in the fourth.

The Isotopes plated four runs in the next frame that made it 7-0. Alex Castellanos walked, moved to second a wild pitch, and scored the first run of the frame on a Josh Fields RBI single. Field would later steal second base and scored on another wild pitch from McClung. Angle then removed Nashville starter Seth McClung from the game with a two-run single to right field.

McClung (2-11) lasted 4 2/3 innings in the loss, scattering nine hits for seven runs. The 31-year-old also struck out nine Isotopes, setting a season high for Sounds starters.

Amaury Rivas followed up with 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. Rob Wooten finished the game with two shutout frames.

The Sounds and Isotopes continue their series on Saturday with doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning contests beginning at 6:05pm CT at Greer Stadium. Nashville righty Claudio Vargas (3-1, 4.89) will toe the rubber against Albuquerque right-hander Will Savage (10-3, 5.34) in the opener. Nashville’s starter is TBA in the twinbill finale. Albuquerque will counter with righty Blake Johnson (0-0, 6.39).
