Lady Govs golf team earns OVC Team Academic Achievement Award for third straight year

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For a third straight year, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team has been saluted with the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award.

The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average or higher—OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  The Lady Govs golf team had seven of its student-athletes earn such distinction. As a team the Lady Govs golfers posted a 3.738 grade-point average in the fall and 3.640 in the spring. «Read the rest of this article»

149 Austin Peay Student-Athletes named to Spring Honor Roll

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University student-athletes posted a 2.862 grade-point average during the recently completed Spring 2011 semester, the department announced Thursday.

The department saw 147 student-athletes named to the Spring 2011 Athletics Director’s Honor Roll, representing 49 percent of the department’s 300 student-athletes. Included in that tally are 16 student-athletes who were named to the President’s List – recording a perfect 4.0 GPA – and 70 student-athletes who were named to APSU’s Dean’s List, earning a 3.5 or better GPA.

Errors costly in Govs regular-season finale loss at UT Martin

Austin Peay State University GovernorsMartin, TN – Austin Peay’s baseball team committed three errors in the eighth inning and dropped its season finale, 7-6, to UT Martin, Saturday, at Skyhawk Field.

Austin Peay (30-22, 17-6 OVC) jumped out to a 5-0 lead through six innings. First baseman John Hogan’s leadoff home run in the second put the Govs on the board. One inning later, Austin Peay scored three runs – two courtesy third baseman Greg Bachman’s single and another on Hogan’s single. Second baseman Jordan Hankins added the fifth run courtesy a solo home run in the sixth.

Govs to make two special presentations on final home weekend

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team will host Southeast Missouri with the Ohio Valley Conference’s regular-season title waiting in the wings. In addition to the three-game series, the Governors will make special presentations before the beginning of each day’s action, slated for 1:00pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Hogan delivers Govs victory at Belmont

Austin Peay State University GovernorsNashville, TN – First baseman John Hogan’s gave Austin Peay’s baseball team the lead with a two-run single in the ninth and closer Ryne Harper shut the door in Austin Peay’s 7-5 non-conference victory against Belmont, Tuesday night, in the first game at Rose Park.

Hogan came to the plate with the bases loaded after Belmont intentionally walked late substitute Jordan Hankins. Hogan responded with a single through the left side, scoring the game-winning runs. Harper (2-2) recorded the game’s final five outs for the win.

Govs wrap season with sweep of UT Martin

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University’s  baseball team wrapped up its 2010 schedule with an Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader  sweep of UT Martin, Saturday. The Govs won the opener 9-3 before holding on to win the season finale, 11-9.

Austin Peay (27-25, 8-13 OVC) used a six-run third inning to break open the day’s first game. Ten Govs batters came to the plate and the first six batters reached base safely. Designated hitter Matt Kole, first baseman John Hogan, catcher Trey Lucas and third baseman Shayne Martin each batted in a run with shortstop Reed Harper closing the rally with a two-run double. «Read the rest of this article»
