Austin Peay State University professor Tamara Smithers publishes academic book on Italian Renaissance painter Michelangelo

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Everyone has a reason for why they do what they do, and for Dr. Tamara Smithers, associate professor of art history at Austin Peay State University, the reason she has devoted her passion to the study of art history is the work of Italian Renaissance sculptor and painter Michelangelo.

“To speak candidly, I’ve been obsessed with Michelangelo – his artwork, his life and his legend – ever since I can remember,” Smithers said.

Dr. Carol Baskauf, APSU professor of biology, will present at 3:00pm, Thursday, November 7th, in the Morgan University Center, Room 303. She will talk about her work with Braun’s rock-cress, a federally endangered plant found only in Tennessee and Kentucky.  The plant has an unusual distribution, with a 250-mile gap separating its Tennessee and Kentucky populations.

He will discuss his paper, “Time Travel by Bicycle: The Country, the City, and the Cyclist in Late-Victorian England,” which uses accounts of bicycling in Victorian novels to examine how people moved easily between antiquated rural communities and modern cities during that era’s agricultural depression.

15 APSU Faculty members chosen as Summer Research Fellows

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Fifteen faculty members at Austin Peay State University have been chosen as awardees in the Summer Research Fellowship Program (SRFP), an initiative to encourage the development of research/creative activity projects at the University.

The SRFP awards up to $5,000 for selected proposals by tenured or tenure-track faculty to develop a research or creative activity project that should place them in a better position to seek external funding.
