High School Basketball Roundup for Wednesday, December 28th

Rossview High Basketball Bash (Hawks win, Knights lose), both Clarksville High teams win, Poythress leads Northeast to win a Rossview Lady Hawks split

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – The opening game of the New Year’s Basketball Bash at Rossview High School Wednesday featured a quiet match up between the Kenwood High School Knights and the Warriors of Hunters Lane High School. Not only was the atmosphere quiet, as the crowd consisted of mostly family members, but the Knights didn’t play with their usual aggression and it cost them in their 40-34 loss.

It was turnovers during the first quarter and poor attempts at the line that kept the first half score low for both teams. The Knights finished with 20 turnovers and went 6-of-13 at the line. The Warriors finished the game with 14 turnovers and went 3-of-11 at the line overall.

Clarksville Sports NetworkClarksville, TN – Austin Peay expected Rochester to be tough. But maybe not as pesky as the Warriors turned out to be, because the Govs got everything the could handle from the NAIA school in the first 25:04 of the 40-minute game.

In the end, Austin Peay still found away to win and controled the final 14:56 en route to a 72-50 victory Saturday night in the Dunn Center.

“I was really disappointed in our play in the first half in a number of different ways,” APSU coach Dave Loos said. “But as poorly as we played in the first half, we proably played that well in the second half and it started with the eneregy we played with.”

Melvin Baker sets up the half court offense during Austin Peay's win over Rochester. Baker ended the game with 10 points.
