APSU Tennis falls at Eastern Kentucky Colonels, 7-0

Richmond, KY – In its first Ohio Valley Conference match of the season,  APSU men’s tennis team fell 7-0 at Eastern Kentucky, Friday.

The Austin Peay State University Governors (0-6) failed to record a point for the third consecutive contest, falling just short of claiming the doubles session.

APSU’s lone win came at No. 2 doubles, with sophomore Aleh Drobysh and freshman Almantas Ozelis teaming to defeat Sebastian Mueller and Diego Asis, 6-4. At No. 1, EKU’s Alex Avaro and Ramon van Flymen topped Aaron Jumonville and Manuel Montenegro, 6-3, while Diogo Soares and Indra Patwardhan defeated Alex Kartsonis and Chad Woodham, 6-1.

Austin Peay went 0-6 in singles play, despite forcing two tiebreakers. Jumonville was edged by van Flyman, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, while at No. 3, Montenegro battled before taking a loss against Guillem Sanchis, 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).

Ozelis, at No. 2, lost 6-1, 6-4 versus Alvaro, Mueller defeated Drobysh, 6-4, 6-2, Soares knocked off Kartsonis, 6-1, 7-6, and Florian Graskamp cruised over James Mitchell, 6-0, 6-2.

The Govs will have a quick turnaround before traveling to Morehead State, Saturday, at Sadler Courts.
