Clarksville, TN – Coming off their first win of the 2019 season, Austin Peay State University (APSU) soccer will open Ohio Valley Conference play, Thursday, September 19th at Morgan Brothers Soccer field when the SIU Edwardsville Cougars come to town.
The APSU Governors will open OVC play tomorrow night with the reigning OVC Defensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week. Renee Semaan and Mary Parker Powell earned those awards after leading the Govs to a shutout win over Evansville on Sunday.

Last season the Governors traveled to Edwardsville, where they lost an overtime thriller to the Cougars.
In that game, Mary Parker Powell led the way for the Govs making eight saves in regulation, plus one in overtime. Semaan, Morgan Drawdy, and Ashley Whittaker all had two shots and one on goal in last season’s matchup, but none of the Govs were able to solve the Cougar’s keeper.

APSU vs. Bearcats All-Time: First Meeting
Bearcats vs. OVC teams: 14-3-1
Bearcats vs. schools from TN: 18-8-2
On Saturday the Governors will take on Cincinnati for the first time in program history. The Bearcats enter the matchup with a 2-5-1 record, having tied with Xavier in their last match on Sunday.
In the past two seasons, the Governors have tied with Belmont (1-1) and Eastern Kentucky (1-1) in their OVC season opener. The Govs have not lost an OVC opener at home since 2012, when they dropped a match to Murray, 0-1.
Anna McPhie and Drawdy also picked up their first points of the season, assisting on the two goals.
On the defensive end the Governors have been anchored by their seniors. The trio of Semaan, Melody Fisher, and Meghan Dees are all a part of Naomi Kolarova‘s backline rotation, one that proved to be quite formidable when they held Evansville to just three shots on goal.
Saturday’s match against Cincinnati will be streamed online for free on Bearcats TV. For news, scores and updates on all of Austin Peay State University’s soccer matches this weekend, follow along on Twitter (@AustinPeaySoccer).
