5th Special Forces Group’s 4th Battalion changes command at Fort Campbell

 

5th Special Forces GroupFort Campbell, KY – Soldiers, families and friends with the 4th Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), also known as “Legion,” welcomed their new commander July 17th, 2014.

During a ceremony held here at Gabriel Field, Lt. Col. Joseph Lock relinquished command of the 4th Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) to Lt. Col. Michael Harris.

“I characterize this day as bittersweet, because we’re saying goodbye to the Locks, who are a true Legion power family,” said Col. John W. Brennan, commander of the 5th SFG (A). “It is also sweet today, because we welcome Mike [Lt. Col. Harris] and Bren [spouse of Lt. Col. Harris] into the Legion fold for the very first time.”

Currahee artillery soldiers from Fort Campbell receive ARCOM with Valor

 

CurraheeFort Campbell KY - 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Staff Sgt. Kristopher J. Forchione, Sgt. Ramon A. Fernandez and Sgt. Justin M. Watson, all cannon crew members with 4th Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), received Army Commendation Medals with Valor device during an award ceremony February 13th, 2014.

Ramon and Watson were conducting maintenance on an M119 105mm howitzer when the combat outpost they were on came under indirect fire. Instead of running to cover, which is general protocol, the soldiers reassembled the howitzer in a matter of minutes to conduct a counter-fire mission.

The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade uncased their colors in a ceremony at Fort Campbell yesterday

 

159th Combat Aviation BrigadeFort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade part of the 101st Airborne Division held a ceremony uncasing their unit colors at the Fort Campbell Army Airfield’s Passenger Processing Center on March 22nd.

The colors uncasing ceremony is a time-honored tradition that marks the final step of redeployment for the brigade from its yearlong mission providing rotary-wing aviation support throughout southern Afghanistan.

Fort Campbell Welcomes Home 281 Soldiers from the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Yesterday Fort Campbell welcomed 281 soldiers from the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade home from a year long deployment to Southern Afghanistan. The 159th Combat Aviation Brigade is one of the last major elements of the 101st Airborne Division still deployed in Afghanistan. The returning soldiers were from the 563rd Aviation Support Battalion “Fighting”; 7th Squadron, 17 Cavalry Regiment   “Pale Horse”; 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment “Eagle Wings”; and 7th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment “Eagle Lift”.

Family and friends of the returning soldiers had gathered together to give their loved ones a proper welcome home.

July Eagle Remembrance Ceremony Planned

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – A remembrance ceremony honoring Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell, is scheduled for 4:00pm July 13th at the 101st Airborne Division Headquarters.

Remembrance ceremonies are held to honor fallen Soldiers deployed in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and are held monthly, as needed.

159th Combat Aviation Brigade Soldier dies in Afghanistan

 

101st Airborne Divison at Fort CampbellFort Campbell – A Fort Campbell Soldier died Thursday at Combat Outpost Garda in the Nerkh District of Afghanistan from injuries sustained from insurgent small-arms fire.

Specialist Russell S. Hercules Jr., 22, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., was an infantryman assigned to F Company, 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, 159th Combat Aviation Brigade. He joined the Army in June 2006 and arrived at Fort Campbell in October 2008. «Read the rest of this article»
