AFS-USA Celebrates International Education Week

 

New York, NY – AFS Intercultural Programs, a leader in international high school student exchange for more than 60 years, joins educational and cultural organizations across the country in celebrating the 11th annual International Education Week, November 14th-18th, 2011.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the U.S.

The Miss Tennky Area AFS Volunteer Leadership Team to attend International Festival tomorrow

 

Clarksville, TN – The Miss Tennky Area AFS Volunteer Leadership Team will be at the IC International Festival on Sunday August 21st from 12:00pm – 5:00pm on Franklin Street here in Clarksville. Their booth will be on Franklin under the shade trees.

Come meet the Miss Tennky Area AFS Volunteer Leadership Team and several of their new AFS HS exchange students and their families at the Immaculate Conception Church Craft Fair and International Festival on Sunday, August 21st from 12:00pm – 5:00pm.

The final day of Rivers and Spires starts off slow, but picks up in the end

 

The Rivers and Spires FestivalClarksville, TN – Due to unseasonably chilly weather and a blustery wind, the third day of Rivers and Spires looked like it was going to end with a whimper rather than a bang, the victim of the unpredictable spring weather. However as the afternoon wore on, more and more people showed up to enjoy all that the festival had to offer. “The crowd hung in even though we had monsoon winds and rains, and I think it says a lot about this festival, and how much people enjoy it” said Festival Manager Doug Barber.

afsThe AFS volunteers in our area are looking for great families of all kinds who are interested in hosting a high school exchange student for the 2010-2011 school year. AFS is a worldwide nonprofit organization that has been leading international high school exchange for more than 60 years with the mission of helping to build a more just and peaceful world. Most families who host with AFS have no idea how much this experience will change their lives!

Area AFSers attend post-arrival orientation at Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave

 

afsThe Miss Tennky Area AFS Volunteer Leadership Team’s entire thirty-eight 2009-10 roster attended post-arrival at Mammoth Cave, KY, September 12-13.

The group enjoyed study groups, a cave trip, talent show, great food and outdoor recreation, plus fantastic international conversations. The group represents students from Germany, Latvia, Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Brazil, Costa Rico, France, Italy, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Thailand, Belgium and Japan.

There were four (4) AFS students from Clarksville who attend Rossview High School: Konrad Seifert from Germany hosted by Traci Warren and David Charlesworth, Emelie Moberg from Sweden hosted by Jen and Donald Poelking, Marji Satalova from Latvia hosted by Natalya Mateeva and George Bowes and Thomas Sanna hosted by Tina and Scott Tadsen.
