Fort Campbell, KY – On Thursday, August 22nd, 2019, 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasan,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) soldiers will welcome a new commander at 9:00am.

Col. John Cogbill, who has commanded the unit for two years, will pass the brigade colors to Col. Brandon Teague in a ceremony on the division parade field at Fort Campbell.

Fort Campbell, KY – The 3rd Brigade Combat Team “Rakkasans”, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), added to its distinguished history with the formal recognition of the addition of 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment “White Currahee” in a ceremony held at Fort Campbell May 14th.

“Both our Soldiers, our Families and our Veterans from the White Currahee nation are extremely honored to come back to the 3rd Brigade Combat Team,” said Lt. Col. Scott Kirkpatrick, commander, 2nd Bn, 506th Inf. Rgt. “It’s about two storied organizations, the Currahees and the Rakkasans, coming together to make a legendary one.”

Hamburger Hill Veterans return to Fort Campbell

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionFort Campbell, KY – Dozens of Vietnam-era, 101st Airborne Division Veterans will return to Fort Campbell May 8th-9th to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the Battle of Hamburger Hill.

The 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, “Iron Rakkasans” will welcome the Veterans back to Fort Campbell and will host several events in their honor.

On May 8th, two generations of Rakkasan warfighters will watch a screening of the movie Hamburger Hill together on Fort Campbell followed by a private tour and capabilities demonstration for the Vietnam-era “Iron Rakkasans.”

TF Iron Rakkasan transfers authority to TF Red Currahee

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne Division PatchGhazni Province, Afghanistan – Task Force Iron Rakkasan, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry, 3rd Brigade from the 101st Airborne Division, conducted the official transfer of authority ceremony for western Paktika Province to Task Force Red Currahee, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 4th Brigade from the 101st Division September 10th.

The Iron Rakkasans did not return home; instead they moved west to Ghazni Province.
