Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – For the first time since 2012, Austin Peay State University football team begins a homestand of sorts, playing host to UT Martin, 4:00pm, Saturday at Governors Stadium in the first of back-to-back home contests.

Looking to snap the second-longest losing streak in FCS, the Governors (0-6, 0-3 Ohio Valley Conference) also seek to play spoiler against the Skyhawks.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – After opening up the regular season at home for the first time since 2010, Austin Peay State University will step away from Governors Stadium for the first time this season when the Govs journey south to the Gulf Coast for a match-up with FBS foe Southern Miss, 2:30pm, Saturday, from M.M. Roberts Stadium.

The contest will be aired on the American Sports Network, locally on WUXP (MyTV30).

Instant Peay Play: Opening weekend gives APSU Governors Football coaching staff much to evaluate

 

Instant Peay PlayClarksville, TN – With college football teams not facing another school in a scrimmage before the opening of the regular season, the September 5th contest versus Mercer University has given the Austin Peay coaching staff its first chance to evaluate its talent against someone other than itself, as its moves forward in the 2015 season.

The first thing that jumps out is the improved defensive effort by the Govs, even in the 28-7 loss, after APSU gave up 28 points in the first quarter alone last season versus Mercer on its way to a 49-21 loss in Macon, GA.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University football team had opportunities in its season-opening loss to Mercer, but was unable to capitalize and found itself on the wrong side of a 28-7 result.

The Govs caught an early break when Damien Whitfield forced a fumble inside their own 40, which Demarion Allen fell on for the Govs.

APSU Governors Football picked ninth in annual poll

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUNashville, TN – Austin Peay State University football was picked ninth in the Ohio Valley Conference by a vote of the conference coaches and sports information directors announced Monday at the annual OVC Media Day.

Defending champion Jacksonville State was the top preseason choice for a second straight year, picking up 16 of 18 first-place votes and 128 points total.
