Montgomery County School Resource Officer/Reserve Golf Scramble Fundraiser held Friday, July 11th

 

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office - MCSOClarksville, TN – Nearly 40 golfers competed in the Inaugural School Resource Officer/Reserve Golf Scramble Friday morning at Swan Lake Golf Course.

The team taking home first place were Tom Daugherty, Lewis Boyd, Ed Fowler, Ronald Lott, with second place going to Brian Prentice, Ron Farley, Ray Johnson, Pat Vaden and the team to take third was Joey Henicle, Travis Hanley, Stephen Sewell, Matt Jeffers.

Clarksville’s Norman Smith Elementary School Finalist for SCORE Prize

 

Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemMontgomery County, TN – The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) announced the 12 finalists for the third annual SCORE Prize, with local school Norman Smith Elementary among the group.

Norman Smith School kicks off drive to improve students reading ability

 

The Clarksville-Montgomery County School SystemNorman Smith School has had some issues over the last few years. Located in a high poverty area reading scores at the school have had some room for improvement. So School leaders in conjunction with the teachers and concerned parents decided that they would do something about it. It started over the summer when with the help of volunteers, the school was given a face-lift.

At the same time the teachers were getting prepared for a new strategy. A new program designed to encourage the kids to learn to enjoy reading. “We set out to build a school wide culture of literacy. We want to make reading fun and cool for our kids.” said Beth Unfried the Principal of the Norman Smith School.

New assistant Principal at West Creek Elementary announced

 

Mason Bellamy will be the assistant principal at West Creek Elementary beginning Feb. 16. He will be filling the position held by Lynne Rains who was named principal of the school effective the same date. Currently, Bellamy teaches fourth grade at Sango Elementary School.

He earned his B.A. in political science from the University of Kentucky. He received his M.A. in teaching at Trevecca Nazarene University as well as his administration endorsement; and, he is working toward his doctorate in educational leadership, which is to be completed by May.

Beth Unfried will be taking the principalship at Norman Smith on Feb. 24 at which time Maribeth Sisk will become assistant principal at Sango Elementary.

CMCSS administrative appointments announced

 

The following administrative changes were announced Thursday by CMCSS Schools Director Michael Harris:

  • Maribeth Sisk, currently principal at Norman Smith Elementary, applied for and was selected assistant principal at Sango Elementary. Sisk will fill  a new position created by the growth of Sango, which serves more than 900 students and is projected to continue a growth pattern. Sisk, who has served at Smith since 2007, previously was assistant principal at Northeast Elementary. She earned her master’s degree from Trevecca Nazarene University.
  • Beth Unfried, currently principal at West Creek Elementary, will replace Sisk as principal at Norman Smith through an administrative appointment. She opened West Creek Elementary in 2008 and previously served as principal at Kenwood Elementary for eight years. She earned her master’s degree from Austin Peay State University.
  • Lynne Rains, currently assistant principal at West Creek Elementary, has been administratively appointed principal of the school, replacing Unfried. Rains assisted Unfried in the opening of West Creek. She previously served as academic coach at Kenwood Elementary. She earned her master’s degree from Trevecca Nazarene University.
  • The assistant principalship at West Creek will be posted immediately for applications.

The date for the administrative transfers is yet to be determined in order to ensure the best transition for students and staff.
