Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Joey Wendle left his mark all over Friday night’s contest at sold-out First Tennessee Park and guided Nashville to a 5-1 victory over Albuquerque.

Wendle entered Friday’s game tied atop the PCL leaderboard with 142 hits and added to the total with a three-hit evening. The second baseman caused all sorts of trouble for Albuquerque at the plate and added an over-the-shoulder snag that started an inning-ending double play in the first as well.

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds fell 6-0 to the Albuquerque Isotopes in game one of Thursday night’s doubleheader, but got revenge in the nightcap winning 3-1 at First Tennessee Park.

Roger Bernardina and Tom Murphy hit back-to-back doubles down the left field line to give the Isotopes a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one, before Sounds starter Cody Martin got Angelys Nina to groundout for the second out of the second inning.

Nashville’s Fiers Logs Quality Start; Velez Records Three Hits

Nashville SoundsMemphis, TN – Despite a strong outing from pitcher Mike Fiers, the first-place Nashville Sounds (49-46) could not find their stride offensively and suffered a 1-0 loss to the Memphis Redbirds Thursday afternoon at AutoZone Park. The loss marks the fourth time Nashville has been shutout in 2014.

Fiers (6-5), who was recently named to the PCL All-Star team, pitched seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out eight to pick up his 10th quality start of the year. After this outing, he now boasts an ERA of 2.52, the fourth lowest in the PCL.

Nashville never found an answer against Redbirds starter Tim Cooney, who struck out eight Sounds in eight innings while allowing just three hits.

Nashville (44-41) won its fourth straight game to pull into a first place tie in the PCL American Conference Southern Division.

Nashville Sounds defeat Memphis Redbirds 5-4

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds edged the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds, 5-4, on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium.

Hiram Burgos (1-2) picked up his first win of the season as he matched his career high with 10 strikeouts while allowing three runs on five hits over five innings of work.

The top of the Nashville lineup propelled an 11-hit attack. Leadoff man Pete Orr went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while Eugenio Velez followed him with a 4-for-5, three-RBI effort.

Laffey Allows One Earned Run In Sounds Debut; Morris Homers

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds lost 6-3 in extra innings Friday night before 9,644 fans at Greer Stadium as the Redbirds’ Brock Peterson connected for a bases-clearing single that proved to be the game winner for Memphis.

Tied 3-3 in the top of the 11th inning, Sounds reliever Travis Webb (1-4) loaded the bases with a two outs to set the table for Peterson’s drive to centerfield. Webb took the loss, his fourth of the year, allowing three runs in two-innings of work.
