APSU announces Morris Cephas joins Volleyball staff

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Morris Cephas, who was head coach at King University the past three seasons, will join Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team as assistant coach effective Monday. He replaces Brian Netzler, who accepted a position at Miami University (Ohio) in March.

Cephas, a 2011 graduate of King University, had been King University women’s volleyball head coach since 2013, leading the Division II program to 54 victories overall.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Beach Volleyball’s historic start begins this week

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will have its 16th collegiate sponsored sport kick-off its inaugural season this weekend in Birmingham, AL, with the start of Beach Volleyball’s 2017 regular season, at the UAB Blazer Duals.

Austin Peay will play New Orleans, Tulane and UAB in the program’s historic opening weekend.

The addition of beach volleyball is the first sport added by the Governors Athletic Department since women’s soccer played its first season in the fall of 2002, while also becoming the 10th overall women’s sports sponsored by the university.

APSU to add Beach Volleyball to it’s Intercollegiate Athletics Program

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University will add beach volleyball to its intercollegiate athletics program for Spring 2017, the university announced Thursday, May 5th. The addition will be the 16th Governors athletic team – and 10th team in its women’s portfolio – competing at the Division I level.

“Austin Peay State University is committed to providing opportunities for female student-athletes,” APSU President Alisa White said. “Beach volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports among NCAA schools, and I know students and fans alike will enjoy watching coach Taylor Mott‘s team compete.”

Red dominates APSU Volleyball’s Red-Black scrimmage, Saturday

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University volleyball head coach Taylor Mott‘s Black Squad posted a 2-1 victory (26-24, 16-25, 15-5) in Sunday afternoon’s Red-Black scrimmage at the Dunn Center.

Freshman middle blocker Kaylee Taff led the Black Squad with 12 kills, posting five kills in both the first and third sets.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team starts the final week of its preseason slate when it plays the Red-Black scrimmage, 3:00pm, Sunday at the Dunn Center.

The volleyball coaching staff held its draft Thursday to divide the squad into two teams.

Austin Peay State University Lady Govs - APSUClarksville, TN – A final four match homestand for Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team starts with two opportunities for revenge as it hosts SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Illinois in Ohio Valley Conference contests.

The Lady Govs face Eastern Illinois in a 6:00pm, Friday contest before meeting SIUE in a 2:00pm, Saturday affair at the Dunn Center.

Instant Peay Play: Several new faces will help greet APSU Student Athletes, Fans as school year begins

 

Legends Bank, Clarksville TNClarksville, TN – With Austin Peay football players reporting this weekend, the 2014-15 athletic school year has officially begun, and with it there will be several new and old faces on the sidelines, courts and dugouts as they go there their seasons, as well as several coaching slots still to be filled.

One of the open spots just came open this past week, with men’s golf coach Kirk Kayden announcing that he would be leaving after almost 10 years at the helm to take the same position at Mercer University in Macon, GA.
