Austin Peay State University’s ROTC has 20 combat veterans, meet their Iraq War veteran

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – On the night of the invasion, Christina Taylor drove a light-medium tactical vehicle from Kuwait to Camp Speicher. The drive was 30 to 34 hours, so she caught catnaps whenever possible. 

The convoy stopped to check directions, and Taylor’s noncommissioned officer in charge told her to rest. He’d wake her when the convoy was ready to move.

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – At 6:30am Friday morning, the Austin Peay State University (APSU) ROTC Ranger Challenge team was one of the first four teams to start the Sandhurst military skills competition at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.

The Austin Peay ROTC Ranger Challenge team cadets competing at the Sandhurst competition visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York City on Thursday.

And by Monday night, the team already claimed a top spot at the starting line.

Austin Peay State University ROTC team ‘strong,’ ‘motivated’ for Sandhurst competition

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) ROTC Ranger Challenge team arrived in West Point, New York, on Sunday, ready to compete in its first-ever Sandhurst competition.

“They’re pretty motivated, and they think they’re going to do really well, and I do too,” Keith Colman, the team’s coach, said. “They’re real strong. They’ve been training hard for three months now.”

Seven ‘Green to Gold’ soldiers make up APSU Ranger Challenge team

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – The U.S. Military Academy at West Point recently featured Austin Peay’s ROTC Ranger Challenge team on its website ahead of the prestigious Sandhurst 2019, the world’s premier academy-level military skills competition.

In doing so, West Point officials noted Austin Peay’s team includes seven active-duty soldiers participating in the Army’s Green to Gold program.
