Instant Peay Play: Big week of honors, realizations and futures for several APSU Govs

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – It may be summer and the first action for any Austin Peay State University (APSU) sports teams this fall may still be just over 60 days away, but that doesn’t mean anything didn’t happen this week in Governors sports, as several current and former Govs received honors and realized some dreams to continue their futures in their respective sports.

Things got kicked off on Wednesday, as Governor baseball players Parker Phillips and Greg Leban had their names selected in the 2019 Major league Baseball Draft.

Instant Peay Play: APSU Spring sports earning some early accolades

 

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Some of Austin Peay State University’s spring sports and athletes have gotten some early praise and recognition for their respective upcoming seasons, as several more teams are just days away from starting their seasons.

Off to a quick 3-0 start this spring, the APSU women’s tennis team was picked as co-favorite to win the Ohio Valley Conference regular-season title, as they picked up six of nine first-place votes in the conference’s pre-season poll – while the other co-favorite Murray State picked up the other three first place votes.

Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin named Collegiate Baseball National Coach of the Year

 

Vanderbilt CommodoresNashville, Tn –Two days after winning Vanderbilt’s first-ever men’s national title Commodores’ head coach Tim Corbin has been named National Coach of the Year by Collegiate Baseball.

Corbin led Vanderbilt to a 51-21 record, the Dores’ second straight 50-win season and third in the last four years. The Commodores returned to Omaha for the second time in four years winning the national title in just the school’s second-ever trip to the College World Series. Corbin surpassed 600 career wins during the season and now has 517 wins as the Commodores’ head coach, second-most in program history.

Austin Peay State University Governors Baseball gets first National Ranking

 

Austin Peay State University Governors SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s baseball team has broken into a national poll.

After sweeping UT Martin over the weekend to move to 38-13 on the season, the Govs earned a No. 30 ranking in this week’s NCBWA Division I poll for Austin Peay’s first national ranking in 2013.
