Tennessee Vols Basketball loses at South Carolina, 63-61

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsColumbia, SC – A career-high 25 points from junior John Fulkerson wasn’t enough to lead the Tennessee Vols basketball team past South Carolina, as the Vols fell, 63-61, inside Colonial Life Arena Saturday.

Tennessee’s 20 turnovers proved costly. The loss was the first for UT (14-11, 6-6 SEC) against South Carolina (16-9, 8-4 SEC) since the 2016-17 season.

Fulkerson’s 25 points came on a career-high eight made field goals. He also added a game-high nine rebounds.

Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball gets rolled at South Carolina, 69-48

 

UT Lady VolsColumbia, SC – The No. 22/22 Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team couldn’t overcome the high-powered offense of No. 1/2 South Carolina, falling 69-48 in Colonial Life Arena on Sunday afternoon.
 
Tennessee (17-5, 7-2 SEC) was led by junior Rennia Davis who posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Tamari Key blocked a career-high nine shots to set a new Lady Vol freshman single-game record.
 
Zia Cooke led USC (21-1, 8-1 SEC) with 20 points. Destanni Henderson and Aliyah Boston were also in double figures, finishing with 12 and 10, respectively.

UT Lady VolsKnoxville, TN – No. 22/22 Tennessee (17-4, 7-1 SEC) will play its second No. 1-ranked team of the season, as the Lady Vols travel to Columbia to take on No. 1/2 South Carolina (20-1, 8-0 SEC) in Colonial Life Arena at 12:02pm CT on Sunday.

UT previously faced off with No. 1/1 Stanford on December 18th, playing competitively before falling, 78-51, at Maples Pavilion.

This will mark the 59th meeting in a series that began in 1972, with Tennessee leading 58-10. The Lady Vols will try to snap a two-game losing skid to the Gamecocks, but the Big Orange will try to extend a two-game winning streak in games played at Colonial Life Arena.

Tennessee Vols defeat South Carolina Gamecocks 92-70 for 15th Straight Win

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsColumbia, SC – Despite a push from the Gamecocks in the second half to make it a one-possession game, No. 1 Tennessee pulled away in the second half for a 92-70 victory Tuesday at South Carolina’s Colonial Life Arena.

The victory marked the 15th consecutive win for the Vols (19-1, 7-0 SEC), matching a program record that has stood for more than a century (February 20th, 1915, until January 20th, 1917).

Tennessee’s defense stepped up big in the final nine minutes of the game, holding the Gamecocks (10-10, 5-2 SEC) to just seven points and 1-of-10 shooting from the field down the stretch.

UT Lady VolsColumbia, SC – No. 1 Tennessee Vols Basketball is back on the road Tuesday night, taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks at Colonial Life Arena.

The game will tip at 5:30pm CT and and will be televised on SEC Network and can also be viewed online through WatchESPN. Fans can listen live on their local Vol Network affiliate to hear Bob Kesling and Bert Bertelkamp describing the action.

Tennessee (18-1, 6-0 SEC) is currently riding a 14-game win streak, most recently topping West Virginia in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge on Saturday in front of a sold-out Thompson-Boling Arena.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsKnoxville, TN – Coming off its worst loss of the season, No. 18 Tennessee will look to bounce back on Tuesday night at Thompson-Boling Arena in a matchup with the South Carolina Gamecocks. The game tips at 8:00pm CT and will be televised live on ESPNU and streamed online via WatchESPN.

The Vols (18-6, 8-4 SEC) were on the losing end for just the second time in over a month on Saturday, falling on the road at Alabama, 78-50. UT shot a season-low 28 percent (16-of-58) from the floor and made only one basket in the final 10 minutes of play. Tuesday night offers a chance to bounce back as the Vols prepare to close out strong during the final stretch of the regular season. In the first meeting with South Carolina, UT came out on top in Columbia, 70-63, behind Lamonté Turner’s 25 points off the bench.

#21 Tennessee Vols gets 70-63 win at South Carolina

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsColumbia, SC – No. 21 Tennessee went on the road for a hard-fought 70-63 victory against South Carolina at Colonial Life Arena on Saturday night.
 
The Vols (13-5, 4-3 SEC) never pulled ahead by more than nine points during the game but were able to hold their lead for nearly 37 minutes. South Carolina stayed within striking distance with its three-point shooting, knocking six of 10 in the second half. UT was able to counter that with a strong presence down low, scoring 39 points in the paint.
 
During the final stretch of play, Tennessee held South Carolina to just 1-of-11 shooting from the field to spur an 11-3 run, during which UT was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line to seal the victory.

Tennessee Vols Basketball falls 59-55 at Missouri Tigers

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsColumbia, MO – The 21st-ranked Tennessee Volunteers never found a rhythm offensively on Wednesday night in Mizzou Arena, falling to Missouri, 59-55.
 
After back-to-back threes by the Tigers, the Vols (12-5, 3-3 SEC) faced a 10-point deficit with 6:43 remaining. UT would fight back to make it a one-point game with 1:33 left in the game.
 
After a stop on defense, Tennessee had a chance to take the lead, but a turnover in the paint with less than a minute to play gave the Tigers the ball back to run the clock down. The Volunteers were forced to foul with 14.4 seconds left. Junior guard Jordan Geist knocked down both free throws to make it a 3-point game.

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsColumbia, MO – Riding a three-game winning streak, the 21st-ranked Tennessee Volunteers are back on the road this week, beginning with a trip to face Missouri at Mizzou Arena on Wednesday night. The game will tip at 8:00pm CT and will be televised live on SEC Network and streamed online via WatchESPN.

The Vols (12-4, 3-2 SEC) have picked up their offense since starting SEC play, ranking as the No. 2 scoring attack in the conference with 84.0 ppg through five contests. Grant Williams continues to shine for UT, leading the team in scoring (16.7 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg) this season. The sophomore forward had a historic performance during Tennessee’s win at Vanderbilt last Tuesday, dropping a career-high 37 points on 12-of-20 shooting in 33 minutes, an effort that earned him SEC Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.
