Rakkasans host future Soldiers at Fort Campbell

Fort Campbell, KY – Fourteen future Soldiers from the Bloomington, IN Recruiting Station were given a glimpse of their future during a visit here March 19th.

“This is the first major [tour] we’ve done like this where we’ve gotten the post and an entire Brigade involved,” said Staff Sgt. Forrest Uribe, a recruiter with the Bloomington Recruiting Station.

The primary focus of the tour was observing training and interacting with Soldiers of 3rd Brigade Combat Team ‘Rakkasans’, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).

Austin Peay Governors Golf slip into 6th-place tie after struggling in second round of GolfWeek Program Challenge

Austin Peay State University GovernorsPawleys Island, SC – Austin Peay State University men’s golf team moved, Monday, but not in the direction the Govs hoped during the second day of the GolfWeek Program Challenge, being played at the True Blue Golf Resort.

After shooting an opening-round even-par 288, the Govs could muster only a 4-over 292 second-round score on the par 72, 6940-yard course. As a result, the Govs slipped into a sixth-place tie with a two-day 580 total.

Sounds Drop Pitching Duel To Albuquerque, 3-2

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds lost a 3-2 pitching duel to the Albuquerque Isotopes, as two Pacific Coast League All-Star starting pitchers tossed fine pitching performances in front of more than 8,000 fans at Greer Stadium on Saturday night.

Albuquerque All-Star and former Sound Dana Eveland (9-5) picked up a victory after surrendering just one run on three hits in seven innings of work.

Nashville All-Star Sam Narron (4-4) matched with a quality start of his own but came away with a tough loss. The left-hander gave up two runs on seven hits in six innings of work, tossing a season-high 119 pitches.

Sounds Snap Skid With 3-1 Triumph In Albuquerque

 

Fiers Earns Win In 1st Triple-A Start

Nashville SoundsAlbuquerque, NM – Brett Carroll belted a go-ahead, two-run homer and Mike Fiers turned in a solid outing in his first Triple-A start to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 3-1 victory over Albuquerque on Saturday evening at Isotopes Park.

With the win, Nashville (40-49) snapped a three-game skid as well as its seven-game road losing streak.

Fiers (1-0) earned a win in his first career Triple-A start. The right-hander held Albuquerque to one run on four hits over five innings, walking three batters and striking out five during his 88-pitch effort.

Gamel Caps Amazing Night With Game-Winning Double In 8th To Lead Sounds To 7-6 Win

 

Nashville Comes From Behind To Down Albuquerque, Snaps Five-Game Skid

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – First baseman Mat Gamel put an exclamation point on his 5-for-5, five-RBI evening with a go-ahead double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Nashville Sounds to a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium.

Gamel accounted for all seven Nashville runs by scoring twice and driving in the other five to help Nashville (9-13) snap a five-game losing streak with the victory. He matched career highs for hits and RBIs in a game, finishing a triple short of the cycle. «Read the rest of this article»

Sounds Lose Series Opener To Isotopes, 5-1

 

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds dropped their fourth straight game on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium, losing 5-1 to the Albuquerque Isotopes in the opener of a four-game series.

Isotopes pitchers held the Sounds to four hits in the contest and Nashville (8-12) went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position on the evening.

Albuquerque third baseman Corey Smith (2-for-3) gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-out solo home run to center off Sounds starter Amaury Rivas that cleared the wall just to the left of the 24-foot high batter’s eye. The blast was the infielder’s third of the year.
