Prior to the two long balls, the Sounds got on the board on a Danny Santana triple and Andy Ibanez RBI groundout in the second inning. Bandy extended the Sounds’ lead immediately in the third when he launched a solo homer to deep left field to make it a 2-0 game. In the top of the second inning, Iowa struck first. With one out, the Cubs hit back-to-back singles by Jim Adduci and Zack Short. Taylor Davis followed with a soft groundball back to pitcher Phillips Valdez who attempted to turn a double play but threw the ball into center field, scoring Adduci and putting Short at third. It was a 5-3 game in favor of Iowa when rain halted play after six innings. A one-hour, 56-minute delay followed. When play resumed Iowa relievers held Nashville off the scoreboard to secure the series win ahead of Monday’s finale. Nashville jumped on the board early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning after Richelson Pena’s 1-2-3 top half. Nashville Sounds get blasted by Iowa Cubs, 10-4Nashville Sounds
The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning, where Iowa had 13 batters come to the plate and put up seven runs on five hits and five walks, including three doubles to give the Cubs a 7-0 lead. Nashville answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nashville Sounds beat Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park, 8-2Nashville Sounds
Nashville collected 11 hits on the night, led by multi-hit performances by Danny Santana, Carlos Tocci and Eli White. The trio reached base safely nine times in the win. Tocci helped start the scoring immediately in the bottom of the first inning when he led off the home half of the inning with a base hit to left-center. Ian Happ’s big day at the plate was enough for Iowa. The Cubs center fielder delivered a go-ahead three-run double in the fifth inning and finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and a stolen base. Despite a late charge by Nashville in the ninth, the Cubs never relinquished the lead. Nolan Fontana and Carlos Tocci paired to give the Sounds an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
