Nashville Sounds fall to late Round Rock Express rally, 8-6

Nashville SoundsRound Rock, TX – In a game that was mostly in Nashville’s control, a four-run Round Rock inning in the eighth completed a five-run comeback as the Sounds lose to the Express 8-6.

Round Rock started with a bang in the bottom of the first when Myles Straw led off with a triple. Next up, Derek Fisher hit him in with a single and Round Rock took the early 1-0 lead.

Nashville then had a huge inning in second. Matt Davidson and Danny Santana started by walking followed by a single by Andy Ibanez to load the bases with no outs.

Nashville Sounds beat Round Rock Express 3-1 on the road

Nashville SoundsRound Rock, TX – The Nashville Sounds got solo home runs from Jett Bandy and Willie Calhoun, and a solid start from Taylor Hearn in a 3-1 win over the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond Tuesday night.

Prior to the two long balls, the Sounds got on the board on a Danny Santana triple and Andy Ibanez RBI groundout in the second inning.

Bandy extended the Sounds’ lead immediately in the third when he launched a solo homer to deep left field to make it a 2-0 game. It was Bandy’s first home run of the season and the fourth for Nashville.

Nashville Sounds lose close one to Iowa Cubs, 6-5

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Nashville Sounds lost to the Iowa Cubs 6-5 in the series finale Monday night at First Tennessee Park. The Sounds dropped four of five in the opening homestand of the season.

In the top of the second inning, Iowa struck first. With one out, the Cubs hit back-to-back singles by Jim Adduci and Zack Short. Taylor Davis followed with a soft groundball back to pitcher Phillips Valdez who attempted to turn a double play but threw the ball into center field, scoring Adduci and putting Short at third.

Cristhian Adames then grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Short to put Iowa up 2-0.

Nashville Sounds fall to Iowa Cubs, 5-3

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Iowa Cubs outlasted the Nashville Sounds through a lengthy rain delay and came away with a 5-3 win in front of 8,572 fans at First Tennessee Park Sunday afternoon.

It was a 5-3 game in favor of Iowa when rain halted play after six innings. A one-hour, 56-minute delay followed. When play resumed Iowa relievers held Nashville off the scoreboard to secure the series win ahead of Monday’s finale.

Nashville jumped on the board early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning after Richelson Pena’s 1-2-3 top half. Zack Granite singled to start the rally, swiped second base and eventually scored on Danny Santana’s RBI groundout.

Nashville Sounds get blasted by Iowa Cubs, 10-4

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – The Iowa Cubs maintained control over the Nashville Sounds for most of the game in front of a sellout crowd of 10,010 at First Tennessee Park Saturday night. With two big innings in the third and seventh inning, Iowa ran away with a 10-4 win.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning, where Iowa had 13 batters come to the plate and put up seven runs on five hits and five walks, including three doubles to give the Cubs a 7-0 lead.

Nashville answered with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. After back-to-back walks by Willie Calhoun and Matt Davidson to lead off the inning, Patrick Wisdom hit a three-run home run to left field to cut Iowa’s lead 7-3.

Nashville Sounds beat Iowa Cubs at First Tennessee Park, 8-2

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – Chase d’Arnaud clubbed a two-run homer and Ariel Jurado dealt five solid innings as the Nashville Sounds rolled to an 8-2 win over the Iowa Cubs in front of 7,823 fans at First Tennessee Park Friday night.

Nashville collected 11 hits on the night, led by multi-hit performances by Danny Santana, Carlos Tocci and Eli White. The trio reached base safely nine times in the win.

Tocci helped start the scoring immediately in the bottom of the first inning when he led off the home half of the inning with a base hit to left-center. Willie Calhoun walked to put two on for the Sounds, and two batters later the pair pulled off a successful double steal of second and home.

Nashville Sounds fall 5-4 to Iowa Cubs

Nashville SoundsNashville, TN – After a one-hour, 28-minute rain delay to begin the season, the Nashville Sounds came up short against the Iowa Cubs in a 5-4 Opening Day loss in front of 7,475 fans at First Tennessee Park.

Ian Happ’s big day at the plate was enough for Iowa. The Cubs center fielder delivered a go-ahead three-run double in the fifth inning and finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and a stolen base. Despite a late charge by Nashville in the ninth, the Cubs never relinquished the lead.

Nolan Fontana and Carlos Tocci paired to give the Sounds an early 1-0 lead in the second inning. Fontana doubled and Tocci knocked him in with a single through the right side.
