Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s athletic department had 37 student-athletes receive their degrees in the May 7th spring commencement, with many leaving their marks in their respective sports and in the overall history of Governors athletics.

Two basketball players, Chris Horton and Tiasha Gray have been the face of the men’s and women’s basketball program the past four years.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – For the past four seasons Austin Peay basketball player Chris Horton has been one of the best players in Ohio Valley Conference history to not make the postseason, well that all changed February 27th with the Governors earning a spot in the postseason for the first time since the 2011-12 season.

Just how good has Horton been? Well, let’s start with his numbers for Austin Peay.

Heading into his first OVC Tournament game, Horton ranks 10th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,615 points – just 11 points from tying Trenton Hassell for ninth place — and 30 points behind Anthony Davis for eighth place.

Wounded Warriors recognized during Music City Bowl

 

Tennessee National GuardNashville, TN – Eight wounded warriors, their families, and two Gold Star families were invited as special guests through Humana’s Wounded Warriors Program to the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl in Nashville. The group arrived at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Nashville on Sunday, December 28th and attended bowl game festivities the next two days.

Franklin American Mortgage provided several tables for the group at the Franklin American Mortgage Coaches Luncheon, held at the Wildhorse Saloon on Monday, December 29th.

Eight wounded warriors, their families, and two Gold Star families were invited to the Franklin American Mortgage Music City bowl to be honored during each event leading up to the game on Dec. 30, 2014. Before the game, the group stood on the field during the singing of the national anthem.

Clarksville’s Pat Summitt among three to be honored by Basketball Hall of Fame

 

University of TennesseeSpringfield, MA – University of Tennessee Head Coach Emeritus Pat Summitt, 12-time NBA All-Star and Hall of Famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson and youth basketball ambassador Boo Williams were winners of the 2013 Mannie Jackson – Basketball’s Human Spirit Award.

The winners were recognized during events leading up to the 2013 Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremonies. Summitt did not travel to Massachusetts for the event.
