APSU BaseballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) baseball begins its first road trip of the season when it meets nationally-ranked Vanderbilt in a 4:30pm, Wednesday contest at Hawkins Field in Nashville, TN.

The Governors hit the road after picking up their first two wins of 2019, sweeping a Sunday doubleheader against Northern Illinois.

APSU earns 11 OVC Medals of Honor; two team captured OVC Team Academic Achievement Awards

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsAustin Peay State University student-athletes earned 11 Ohio Valley Conference Medals of Honor while two teams, women’s golf and men’s tennis, captured OVC Team Academic Awards, announced Thursday by the conference office.

The Medal of Honor is awarded annually to student-athletes who achieve the highest grade-point average in a conference-sponsored sport.  Each one of the APSU recipients held a 4.0 grade-point average in their respective sport for the year.  Heading the list is a pair of senior women’s track and field ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans, Carrie Burggraf (first team) and Shamai Larsen (second team). APSU pitchers Marshall, Vicini sign professional contracts

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University pitchers Ricky Marshall and David Vicini have signed professional contracts, Govs head coach Gary McClure announced, Friday.

Five of the Govs 11 seniors in 2010 have now signed professional contracts. Marshall and Vicini join Zach Gerler (Washington Nationals), Stephen Huff (Chicago White Sox) and Trey Lucas (Boston Red Sox) who previously signed free-agent contracts. «Read the rest of this article»

Baseball: Govs down Skyhawks in series opener

 

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University’s baseball team bent but did not break and held on for a 9-7 victory against UT Martin in Ohio Valley Conference action, Friday night, at Raymond C. Hand Park. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain and will be played as part of a doubleheader beginning at noon, Saturday.

Austin Peay (26-25, 6-11 OVC) struck first, scoring four runs in the second inning. Five consecutive batters reached base safely with one out with third baseman Cody Hudson and shortstop Reed Harper each posting two-run singles.

Govs senior starter Stephen Huff, making his final career start, held UT Martin in check through the first three innings, striking out six of the first 10 batters he faced, surrendering only a second inning walk. «Read the rest of this article»

Bullpen bails out Bat Govs in 13-8 win against Iowa

 

APSU Governors LogoIf Saturday is any indication Austin Peay State University’s baseball team may have found some pitching solutions for the 2010 campaign.

Freshman Matt Marsh and converted infielder Zach Gerler combined for five shutout relief innings as Austin Peay State University defeated Iowa, 13-8, in the Riverview Inn Classic at Raymond C. Hand Park.

The victory improves the Governors to 2-0 in the young season as they will complete tourney play by hosting Illinois State, noon, Sunday. Iowa fell to 1-1.

APSU Baseball: Bat Govs open signing period with splash, nine sign NLIs

 

apsugovernorsFacing the loss of 11 seniors, including four pitchers, following the upcoming 2010 campaign, Austin Peay State University head baseball coach Gary McClure and his coaching staff had plenty of work to do on the recruiting trail. That work paid off, Wednesday, as nine players signed a letter of intent on the first day of the signing period.

The Govs signed eight high school seniors and one junior college sophomore to letters of intent. The nine players hail from seven different states: Tennessee, Colorado, Florida, Mississippi, Missouri, New Jersey and New York. Four pitchers, including three left-handed hurlers, are included in the count along with two catchers and three fielders.
