APSU pitchers Marshall, Vicini sign professional contracts

APSU Governors LogoAustin Peay State University pitchers Ricky Marshall and David Vicini have signed professional contracts, Govs head coach Gary McClure announced, Friday.

Five of the Govs 11 seniors in 2010 have now signed professional contracts. Marshall and Vicini join Zach Gerler (Washington Nationals), Stephen Huff (Chicago White Sox) and Trey Lucas (Boston Red Sox) who previously signed free-agent contracts.

Marshall, a Mansfield, Ohio, native signed a free-agent contract with the Chicago White Sox and is expected to be assigned to the Bristol (Va.) White Sox of the rookie level Appalachian League.

He finished his two-year Austin Peay career with an 11-9 record in 38 appearances, compiling a 4.94 ERA. Marshall was 7-6 with a 5.19 ERA in 2010, striking out 52 batters over 78.0 innings.

David Vicini

Vicini, a Lexington, Ky., native signed a free-agent contract with the Windy City Thunderbolts of the indpendent Frontier League.

He made 89 appearances – second most in program history – over his five-year career, which included a 2009 season that was shortened due to injury.

Vicini finished his career with an 8-9 record and 5.56 ERA, striking out 121 batters over 173.1 career innings pitched.
