Tennessee Department of Education Releases Guide to Help Support Students with Characteristics of Dyslexia

 

Tennessee Department of EducationNashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Education has released the Dyslexia Resource Guide, which offers assistance to schools for identifying and supporting for students showing characteristics of dyslexia.

This guide provides districts with information related to screening procedures for dyslexia, specific interventions, professional learning resources, and reporting requirements.

2016 Legislative Session of the 109th Tennessee General Assembly report

Tennessee State Representative - District 68Nashville, TN – The 109th Tennessee General Assembly adjourned on April 22nd, 2016 to become a part of Tennessee history with passage of major legislation to reduce crime, cut tax burdens, spur job growth, accelerate the state’s success in K-12 education, boost the number of college graduates, curb drug abuse and curtail drunk driving.

State lawmakers also passed significant legislation to ease traffic congestion, reduce child abuse, aid farmers, increase access to healthcare and medication, increase voter participation and provide a safer environment for the elderly.

Tennessee State Representative - District 67Nashville, TN – Several bills sponsored by State Representative Joe Pitts (D-Clarksville) moved along in committees last week. This is a general update on the bills and events on the Hill from this week.

House Bill 2616/Senate Bill 2635 The #SayDyslexia bill has now passed both the Senate and the House and is headed to the Governor for his signature. The bill will address early screening and intervention for the students with attributes of dyslexia.

Veterans Property Tax Relief Bills Rolled to March 30th

“#SayDyslexia” Bill passes House and Senate committees

Tennessee State Representative - District 67Nashville, TN – Several bills sponsored by Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts (D-Clarksville) moved along in committees last week.  This is a general update on the bills and events on the Hill from last week.

House Bill 1410/Senate Bill 1484 – (Senator Mark Green (R-Clarksville) is scheduled for the final House Local Government Sub Committee on March 30th.  This legislation will repeal the “Save our Property Tax Relief” legislation, Public Chapter 481, which passed last year.  Public Chapter 481 made changes to the disabled veterans, senior citizens and disabled citizen property tax relief program.

Austin Peay State University alumna Ruth Fuller Lature to have book signing February 5th

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – At 11:00am on February 5th, noted dyslexia advocate and Austin Peay State University alumna Ruth Fuller Lature (’63, ’76) will sign copies of her new book, “Dyslexia: A Teacher’s Journey,” in the Morgan University Center.

Lature spent 35 years as a public school teacher in Kentucky, where she quickly developed a passion for students with reading disabilities.
