Blanchfield Army Community Hospital recognizes namesake Florence Blanchfield as Army Nurse Corps marks 119 years

 

Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH)Fort Campbell, KY – Blanchfield Army Community Hospital and Army Nurses from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), 531st Hospital Center gathered at BACH before clinic hours January 30th, 2020 to celebrate the 119th Anniversary of the Army Nurse Corps.

While nurses have supported the nation’s Soldiers since the American Revolution, it was not until February 2nd, 1901 that congress formally established the U. S. Army Nurse Corps. Nurses were appointed in the Regular Army for three years at a time, and their appointments could be renewed based on satisfactory service.

Great niece of hospital’s namesake visits Fort Campbell’s Blanchfield Army Community Hospital

 

Blanchfield Army Hospital - BACH - Fort Campbell KYFort Campbell, KY – The great niece of Col. Florence Blanchfield, Vicki Blanchfield, visited Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in late April for the first time since its opening in September 1982.

Col. Telita Crosland, hospital commander, provided a tour for Blanchfield and her husband who were visiting Tennessee for a family reunion in Nashville. Traveling from their home in Orlando, FL, the two decided to extend their travel a day to visit the hospital and tour the facility.
