Topic: Hong Kong China
Washington, D.C. – Confucius Institutes provide communist China with leverage to discreetly influence what college students are taught about topics like Hong Kong and Tiananmen Square and impede freedom of speech on campus. We cannot allow students to be brainwashed by revisionist history.
That’s why I sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) Secretary Miguel Cardona to push for censorship-free alternatives to support Mandarin language and Chinese culture initiatives in the U.S., including those provided by our democratic partner Taiwan. Read more about the letter here.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) along with Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) introduced the Transparency for Confucius Institutes Act.
Confucius Institutes, which are run and paid for by the CCP, currently operate at 55 American colleges and universities. They allow China to discretely influence what college students are taught about topics like Hong Kong and Tiananmen Square and impede freedom of speech on campus.

Washington, D.C. – If you tune into China Central Television (CCTV), you’ll see forced prisoner confessions, government propaganda, and the NBA. That’s right, basketball.
The NBA’s recent return to CCTV reveals the league’s continuing complacency about human rights abuses and raises tough questions for basketball fans and human rights activists alike. What did the NBA do to regain favor with China? Why would they want to support the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in the first place?
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn is demanding answers from the NBA about its return to China Central Television (CCTV). Communist China banned NBA broadcasts following outspoken support within the league for the Hong Kong freedom fighters.
“Commissioner Silver cut a deal to air NBA games on the same station that regularly broadcasts Communist propaganda and forced prisoner confessions,” said Senator Blackburn. “Commissioner Silver needs to come clean — did he agree to censor players’ free speech to return to Chinese state-run airwaves?”
COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution For Memphis Veterans
Washington, D.C. – Our veterans made many sacrifices so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. It seems fitting that many of these brave individuals will be among the first groups of people to receive the COVID-19 Coronavirus vaccine if they wish to receive it.
This week, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs announced that they will provide vaccinations to front line VA healthcare workers and veterans residing in long-term care units, including in our very own Memphis VA Health Care System. Veterans seeking additional information should visit the VA Coronavirus Vaccine FAQs webpage, contact their care team, or visit their facility website.
Blackburn, Rubio, Colleagues Inquire About Disney’s Choice to Film Mulan in Xinjiang, Where More Than One Million Uyghurs Are in “Reeducation” Camps
Washington, D.C. – Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) joined Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) and their colleagues in inquiring about Disney’s cooperation with Xinjiang’s security and propaganda authorities in the production of the movie Mulan. For years, reports have surfaced highlighting China’s campaign against Uyghur and other ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region’s (XUAR).
“The decision to film parts of Mulan in the XUAR, in cooperation with local security and propaganda elements, offers tacit legitimacy to these perpetrators of crimes that may warrant the designation of genocide,” the members write to The Walt Disney Company’s Chief Executive Officer Bob Chapek.
Marsha Blackburn says NBA’s Move to Abandon Xinjiang Presence Should Motivate U.S. Corporations to Cut Communist China Ties
Washington, D.C. – The National Basketball Association (NBA) has responded to Senator Marsha Blackburn’s (R-Tenn.) concerns about the league’s relationship with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and, for the first time, announced the closure of its controversial training facilities in Xinjiang, one of the world’s worst humanitarian zones.
According to NBA Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum, the relationship with the Xinjiang basketball academy has been effectively terminated for over a year.
Silver Spring, MD – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today continued to take action in the ongoing response to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic:
The FDA and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) jointly issued a warning letter to Hong Kong-based SuperHealthGuard and Loyal Great International, Ltd., advising these companies to cease selling unapproved products online to customers in the United States with misleading claims that such products mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 Coronavirus in people.
Washington, D.C. – This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee voted to authorize subpoenas for 53 officials involved in the abuse of FBI surveillance capabilities, including James Comey, Sally Yates, Andrew McCabe, Lisa Page, and Susan Rice. We need to know how these officials used and abused their taxpayer-given authority.
The Committee is also looking into the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. What we learn over the next few months will help ensure illegal surveillance of Americans never happens again.
Washington, D.C. – The COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic has revealed China’s ability to wreak havoc on the global economy and cut off our access to essential supplies.
The Chinese Communist Party’s malicious actions should come as no surprise. Decades of failed engagement, Western investment and unfair trade tactics built China into an industrial behemoth, giving the CCP control over the world’s supply of pharmaceuticals, medical equipment and other basic goods.
