Basketball Coach Dave Loos returns to APSU sideline Thursday

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head men’s basketball coach Dave Loos will return to the sidelines this week after a four-game leave of absence during his ongoing chemotherapy treatment.

Loos took leave from the team prior to the Tennessee Tech game, January 5th, with assistant head coach Jay Bowen serving as acting head coach the past four games—the Govs went 2-2 in Loos’ absence.

The Austin Peay attack, which featured four players in double figures, was paced by a season-high 36 points from junior Josh Robinson, including 15 in the first half.

Instant Peay Play - APSU SportsClarksville, TN – When it was announced last Thursday morning that Dave Loos was going to take a leave of absence as head coach of the Austin Peay State University’s men’s basketball program, to focus on his fight versus cancer and having to continue chemotherapy, it left a huge hole on the Governors bench that he has filled since 1990.

It’s hard to think about the Governors men’s basketball program and not think about coach Loos – who from his first game leading the Govs back on November 11th, 1990 versus Arizona to the morning of his announced leave of absence covered 9,553 days.

July surgery led the removal of a malignant tumor on Loos’ colon and the discovery of a cancerous growth on a lymph node in the area.

APSU’s Jay Bowen elevated to assistant basketball head coach

APSU Men's Basketball - Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University head men’s basketball coach Dave Loos announced Tuesday that Jay Bowen has been elevated to assistant head coach.

Bowen, who returned to Austin Peay last season for a second time, has more than 30 years’ experience on the sidelines and is in his third tour of duty alongside Loos—the two coached together at Christian Brothers from 1984-87 and again at Austin Peay in 2001-02.

“Our thoughts and concerns right now are for the health and well-being of Coach Loos,” APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey said. “We look forward to welcoming him back when he has made a full recovery.”

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TN – APSU basketball head coach Dave Loos, who led Austin Peay State University to a miracle run to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship, will return as Governors head coach for the 2016-17 season. That was announced Tuesday by APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey.

“We are excited to have Coach Loos returning for his 27th season,” said Ivey. “This season was an incredible and magical run, and I look forward to helping Coach Loos and his talented staff build upon the momentum to achieve future success.
