Austin Peay State University names retired Lt. Col. Michael Peeler as inaugural assistant director for veteran and career advising

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU) recently named retired Lt. Col. Michael L. Peeler, former U.S. Army Field Artillery officer, first assistant director for veteran and career advising.

In this new role, Peeler will provide career counseling to the University’s military-affiliated students, as well as assist students and alumni with career exploration, internship opportunities and job preparation.

APSU to Have Increased Autonomy with Local Governing Board

Tennessee Higher Education CommissionClarksville, TN – Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has appointed eight individuals to the newly created institutional governing board at Austin Peay State University.

The purpose of the appointments is to give the University increased autonomy to support student success as the state continues its Drive to 55 Initiative. Austin Peay State University’s governing board is one of six to be appointed by the governor, a result of the governor’s FOCUS Act passed by the Tennessee General Assembly earlier this year.

Austin Peay State University’s Phi Alpha Theta wins eighth Best Chapter Award

 

Austin Peay State University - APSUClarksville, TN – While much of America focused on each word said during the recent first presidential debate, something else was gnawing at the back of the mind of Austin Peay State University professor of history, Dr. Minoa Uffelman.

For the last seven years, the University’s Phi Alpha Theta National Honor Society (PAT), which Uffelman advises, has been recognized each fall with the national Best Chapter Award, but September was drawing to a close without word on a possible eighth consecutive award.

APSU selects Travis Janssen as 11th head Baseball Coach

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUClarksville, TNTravis Janssen, who revived a Northeastern State (Oklahoma) program as head coach in between two stints as the top assistant at Jacksonville State, has been hired as Austin Peay State University’s new head baseball coach.

Janssen replaces Gary McClure, who resigned in August. The Manhattan, KS, native becomes APSU’s 11th head baseball coach but only second since 1988.

APSU names Top Five Candidates for Athletic Director Position

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University has narrowed its search for a new athletics director down to five strong candidates, and the University will begin interviewing the first two candidates on campus next week.

APSU began looking for a new AD in April when Coach Dave Loos stepped down from that position after 16 successful years. Loos remains the head coach for the men’s basketball program.

Austin Peay State University to celebrate 40-year anniversary of the ROTC

 

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – In 1971, the U.S. Army established at Austin Peay State University the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) for recruiting, training and commissioning future Army officers.

In the 40 years since, hundreds of cadets have been commissioned at APSU as second lieutenants in the Army. The program also has earned the reputation as one of the nation’s finest, having won several awards for training and management performance standards. 101st Combat Aviation Brigade Change of Command

 

Fort Campbell KY, 101st Airborne DivisionWings of DestinyFort Campbell, KY – The 101st Combat Aviation Brigade will receive a new commander June 24th, 2011, at 9:30am during a ceremony on the division parade field when Col. William K. Gayler relinquishes command to Col. Paul Bontrager.

Gayler has commanded the 101st CAB since 2009. During his tenure, the brigade deployed to southern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Under Gayler’s command, the brigade provided Army aviation support for U.S. and NATO operations in Regional Command-South, West and Southwest from February 2010 to March 2011. «Read the rest of this article»
