Land Between The Lakes to Celebrate National Trails Day

 

Land Between the Lakes - LBLOffice of Land Between the Lakes, KY/TN – In celebration of the 23rd Annual National Trails Day on Saturday, June 6th, Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area invites the public to help with general trail maintenance on the Central Hardwoods Scenic Trail.

Volunteers will meet at Golden Pond Visitor Center at 8:30am and work until around 12:00pm. Bring lunch, water bottles, and wear appropriate clothing, i.e., long pants, hiking boots, gloves, etc. The Forest Service will provide all tools and equipment, tick spray, and safety glasses.

Land Between the Lakes Hosts National Adventure Race

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area is hosting a National Adventure Race on Friday, October 21st. Participants will navigate by map and compass as they bike, paddle, and trek non-stop for 24 hours across a 100+ miles course.

The event is being sponsored by Checkpoint Tracker which is the largest competitive adventure racing series in North America.  Teams will compete in coed elite, open elite, two-person coed, two-person open, solo male, and solo female divisions.  Participants will  cover plenty of terrain enduring 15-25 miles of paddling, 25-35 miles of trekking, and 45-60 miles of mountain biking. «Read the rest of this article»

White Lightning X-C Mountain Bike Race Coming to LBL June 5th

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Wood-n-Wave will sponsor a mountain bike race for all ages on Sunday, June 5th, at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area. 

The White Lightning X-C Mountain Bike Race is sanctioned by the National Off-Road Bicycling Association (NORBA). The event will cover 11 miles of varied terrain along Canal Loop Trail, located at LBL’s northern tip.  Race lengths vary from 2 miles to 33 miles. Races are scheduled throughout the day, with the first race beginning at 9:00am. National Trails Day “Made with all Natural Ingredients” Celebration June 4th

Race to the Canal Returns to LBL

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Race to the Canal is set to take place again this year at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area on Sunday, October 24th. This event provides cyclists the opportunity to enjoy an adrenaline rush in the great outdoors!

This mountain bike race is sponsored locally by Wood-N-Wave, Grand Rivers, KY, and sanctioned by the National Off-Road Bicycling Association (NORBA). Race to the Canal is an endurance event that will cover challenging and varied terrain along the North/South Trail from Golden Pond Visitor Center to North Welcome Station. LBL’s Turkey Bay OHV Area Offers ATV Training

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area, at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area, is offering training for All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) riders to help them learn the skills necessary to ride safe while having fun.  Users will learn valuable lessons about protecting themselves and respecting the outdoors while riding.

Professionals from the ATV Safety Institute have returned this year to host several ATV safety training courses at LBL throughout 2010. “This training provides a good foundation for people wanting to learn proper riding techniques, build riding confidence, and gain an increased sense of awareness out on the trails,” stated Kyle Varel, Assistant Manager at Turkey Bay. “Topics include correct riding posture, turning safely, and even how to properly tackle obstacles.”  Varel said all ATV riders, or members of the household who are the original owners of their ATVs, are invited to attend the training courses.  «Read the rest of this article»

 

Volunteers Needed for LBL Hike & Bike Trail Workday

 

Land Between the LakesGolden Pond, KY – It’s time to slip on your hiking boots or grab your bike and get out on your favorite trails at Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area!  LBL recreation staff has planned another workday near Gray Cemetery Saturday, October 16th, 2010.

Staff and volunteers will be meeting at 8:30am at Gray Cemetery and working from 9:00am-3:00pm. Gray Cemetery is located on Road 130 approximately 2 miles west of The Trace. The trail work will include clearing a corridor for a new trail re-route and resetting flagging.  «Read the rest of this article»
