Clarksville, TN – Northwest High School scored 42 points in the second half against Clarksville High School, Tuesday, January 27th at the Willard Ross Memorial Gymnasium, as the Vikings rallied to defeat the Wildcats in a District 10-AAA showdown, 68-59.
The Vikings (14-9, 8-3 District 10-AAA) entered the second half trailing the Wildcats 32-26, but exploded out of the gates quickly after intermission by scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the second half – including four each from JaRyan Young and Marice Wright – to take their first lead of the game since the opening minutes of the game, 36-34.
Clarksville, TN – Northwest High School’s Elijah McCoin knocked down a three with 8.7 seconds left, Friday, January 16th in their District 10-AAA game versus Rossview High School, to lift the Vikings past the Hawks, 42-41.
It was the second time this season that McCoin had knocked down a late three to beat Rossview, the first time coming on a half-court buzzer beater on December 2nd in a 47-46 Viking win.
Rossview (10-7, 2-6 District 10-AAA) had taken a two-point lead, 41-39 with 20.8 seconds left, following Jackson Parker hitting one-of-two free throws.
The Vikings came very close to orchestrating a comeback victory. They cut down an 18-point deficit at the beginning of the third quarter to three points in the fourth quarter.
But the Knights executed down the stretch, eating up time with the lead and making five of six free throws in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Dover, TN – Northwest High School’s boys basketball team saw its five-game win streak come to an end, Monday, December 29th at the Bill Craig Memorial Gymnasium in the final day of the Stewart County Rebel Christmas Classic, at the hands of Cheatham County Central High School, 56-52.
The game – although lower scoring than most fans would have thought – was tight the entire way – including Northwest (9-8) tying the game for the final time at 50-50 on an old-fashioned three-point play by JaRyan Young, with 3:11 left.
Clarksville High Wildcats hand Northwest Vikings first District 10-AAA loss in double-overtime thriller
Clarksville, TN – Two free throws by JJ Jones with 1.7 seconds left in double overtime, Friday, December 12th at William Workman Gymnasium, capped a 12-point rally by Clarksville High School, as the Wildcats handed Northwest High School its first District 10-AAA loss of the season, 91-86.
Clarksville High (5-5, 2-2 District 10-AAA) trailed the Vikings 51-39 heading into the fourth quarter, but scored 12 of the first 14 points of the period – including seven by Avery Bates – to cut the deficit back to just two points, 53-51, with 5:48 left in regulation.
Clarksville, TN – For the second game in a row, the basketball game at Northwest High School came down to a shot in the final seconds. This time the Vikings were not taking the last second shot for the win, but the outcome was the same. The Vikings defeated the Northeast Eagles 43-41, for their second straight District 10-AAA win.
Instead of launching a shot from half court for the win, Elijah McCoin had his hands up playing defense in the last seconds of the game Friday night against the Eagles. After a full game of active, smothering defense, the Vikings had to defend their hard fought 43-41 lead the last 18 seconds of the game.
Clarksville, TN – District 10-AAA boys basketball competition began with a bang Tuesday night at Northwest High School. As the last second ran off the clock, Vikings point guard Elijah McCoin launched a shot with one foot past the half court line that banked off the glass and through the net for the win. The Vikings defeated the Hawks 47-46.
“Before the last shot, I told them we have got to believe,” Vikings head coach Vincent Turner said during his last time out after Rossview’s Javon Vaughn made a short jumper to give the Hawks a 46-44 lead, leaving only 3.2 seconds on the clock.
Clarksville, TN – The Kenwood Knights (3-2) trampled the Northwest Vikings (2-3) Friday night, 44-14, for their third win in a row. The Vikings defense simply did not have an answer for the Knights ground game which totaled more than 300 yards.
Kenwood Knight’s senior quarterback Malcolm Perry accounted for most of the Knights offense, rushing for just under 200 yards with two touchdowns. Perry was one of four Knight rushers to score a touchdown. Knights senior running back Josh Lewis had two rushing touchdowns along with Perry.
Clarksville, TN – The high school football season officially kicked off Friday night and the Northwest Vikings were one of six local teams who left Clarksville to play on the road for week 0. Under new head coach Vernon Wright and with new uniforms, the Vikings opened their 2014 campaign with a 27-13 victory over the Stewart County Rebels.
Steamy weather turned the game into a test of both tempers and conditioning. After battling to a 13-13 tie at halftime, Viking quarterback Markel Kea made a 1-yd run for the only touchdown in the third quarter.
Northwest’s Tramon Moore scores 35
Clarksville, TN – Tramon Moore scored 20 of his game-high 35 points in the second half — January 28th at the William Workman Gymnasium — to power Northwest High School, as they broke open a one-point point halftime lead into a 68-50 District 10-AAA victory over the Clarksville High School Wildcats.
Northwest (6-16, 3-8 District 10-AAA) looked like it was going to go into halftime down two points to the Wildcats, but Moore banked in a three from about 28-feet out as the buzzer sounded to give the Vikings a 27-26 lead at intermission.
