APSU Volleyball heads to Kansas City for UMKC Kangaroo Klassic

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University (APSU)’s volleyball team lifts the lid on its 2018 schedule, Friday-Saturday, when it competes in the UMKC Kangaroo Klassic in Kansas City, Missouri.

The two-day, three-match affair will see the Governors face off against South Dakota State, Western Michigan and UMKC to begin the season. It is the first of four pre-conference tournament Austin Peay will compete in this season.

APSU Volleyball plays Trevecca Tuesday at Dunn Center in Exhibition match

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – In the run up to its regular-season opener, Austin Peay State University (APSU)’s volleyball team will host Trevecca in a 3:00pm, Tuesday, August 21st, 2018 exhibition contest at the APSU Dunn Center. Admission to the contest is free to the public.

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – The Austin Peay State University (APSU) volleyball program had been trending upward for several seasons under the direction of head coach Taylor Mott, transforming into a perennial contender with a deep well of talent to draw from.  

But from the moment the Govs toppled 19th-ranked Missouri in an epic five-setter in the season’s third match, even the most casual observer could see the 2017 campaign was going to be special.

APSU signs Volleyball head coach Taylor Mott to Four-Year Contract

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – After seeing its volleyball program construct the most successful season in program history, Austin Peay State University has agreed to a new four-year contract with head coach Taylor Mott, athletics director Ryan Ivey announced Wednesday afternoon.

The new agreement begins January 1st, 2018 and carries through the end of the 2021 calendar year.

Austin Peay State University Sports - APSU - Governors - Lady GovsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University volleyball freshman outside hitter Brooke Moore has been named the Chick-Fil-A Austin Peay Student-Athlete of the Month for November.

The Louisville Kentucky native made the final month of her first Austin Peay campaign a memorable one, becoming the first freshman in Ohio Valley Conference history to earn OVC Tournament MVP honors after leading the Govs to their first OVC Tournament title since 2010.

She helped rally the Govs from first-set deficits against both Eastern Kentucky and Murray State, posting a career-high 22 kills in the semifinals against the Colonels and recording seven of her 15 kills during the final two sets against the Racers.

APSU Women's VolleyballClarksville, TN – After punching its NCAA tournament ticket last weekend, the Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team finds where that ticket leads during the Governors NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship Selection Show Watch Party, beginning 7:00pm, Sunday in the Echo Power Club Room at Fortera Stadium.

APSU rallies to beat Murray State and win OVC Volleyball Championship Title

 

Austin Peay Volleyball NCAA Tournament Bound

2017 OVC Volleyball ChampionshipClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s volleyball team rallied from behind two games to one down and 16-15 in the fourth set to defeat Murray State 3-2 to win its third Ohio Valley Conference Tournament title in program history and earn the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

The Govs also won tournament titles in 2010 and 1992, with the 2010 squad being the other APSU team to make an NCAA Tournament field.

APSU’s Chris Horton named Tennessee Sports Writers Association College Player of the Year

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUPortsmouth, VA – Not only did Chris Horton‘s play as a senior, in particular his Ohio Valley Conference tournament Most Valuable Player performance, earn him nationwide attention, he also has caught the attention of professional scouts.

The 6-8 Horton has earned an invite to next week’s Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.), which will be played in front of representatives from all 30 NBA teams and from numerous international leagues.

Austin Peay State University Governors - APSUDes Moines, IA – Austin Peay State University’s magical late-season run has taken it west and if this Cinderella story is to continue the Governors hope Wells Fargo Arena becomes their “Field”, err, “Court of Dreams,” 3:00pm, Thursday, against No. 1 Kansas in first-round NCAA Regional action, to be broadcast by TNT.

Playing in their first NCAA tournament since 2008, the Governors enter Thursday’s game amidst a six-game winning streak, their longest win streak since the 2010-11 season.
