APSU FootballClarksville, TN – The dynamic defensive duo of defensive end Jaison Williams and linebacker Gunnar Scholato earned more preseason recognition ahead of the 2018 season, as Phil Steele named the standouts to his Preseason FCS All-America Team.

Williams, a junior, has been named to the second team while Scholato, a senior, has been named to the fourth team.

Tennessee Titans pick Nebraska safety Daimion Stafford in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Saturday’s victory against Tennessee State allowed Austin Peay to open 2-0 in the OVC for the first time since 1977, the same season the Govs opened 3-0 for the last time.

When APSU rallied from being down 27-6, that 21-point deficit was the largest overcome by the Governors in school history. The previous largest deficit was 17 points, October 28th, 1978, when the Governors rallied from a 17-0 deficit to defeat Middle Tennessee, 28-17.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – This is Austin Peay’s 39th Ohio Valley Conference season. The Govs are 93-171-2 alltime in OVC play, including 9-29 in OVC openers. The Govs won their OVC opener a year ago, 26-23, against Tennessee State.

After owning a school-record 26 seniors in 2009, the Govs had half that many (13) in 2010. This season the Govs have even fewer, eight.

Austin Peay last won a football game, 26-23, against Tennessee State, September 18th. They enter the contest amidst a 10-game losing streak.

Holt earns another preseason All-America Honor

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsAustin Peay State University’s senior all-purpose back Terrence Holt has been named to the third-team preseason All-America team by College Sporting News.

It is the fourth preseason All-America team Holt has been named to this summer. The senior from Nashville recently was named first-team Preseason FCS Senior Scout Bowl All American. He also was selected second-team Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason All-American kick return specialist by The Sports Network.

Holt named third-team Preseason All-America by Phil Steele preview publication

 

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCleveland, OH  – Senior all-purpose back Terrence Holt has been named third-team Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Preseason All-American return specialist by Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.

In addition, Holt was preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference as a return specialist while junior Ryan White was named first-team as a running back. Holt, along with junior safety Amius Smith and sophomore kicker Stephen Stansell, were named second- team preseason All-OVC.

Those were announced Thursday by the preseason publication. The magazine will hit newsstands in the coming week.
