Lamar Alexander: The Question for Administrators of 6,000 Colleges, Universities is Not Whether to Reopen in August, but How to Reopen Safely

 

U.S. SenateWashington, D.C. – Senate health and education committee Chairman Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) said “the question for administrators of 6,000 colleges and universities is not whether to reopen in August, but how to do it safely.”

Alexander made his remarks today during the Senate health and education committee hearing — “COVID-19: Going Back to College Safely” — which featured college and university presidents discussing their work to help students go back to school in the fall as safely as possible, including: strategies for COVID-19 Coronavirus diagnostic and serology testing, plans to isolate students discovered to have the virus or have been exposed to it, implementation of social distancing guidelines, and coordination and discussions with state and local public health officials.

Tennessee Vols Basketball roars from behind to defeat Alabama, 69-68

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsTuscaloosa, AL – 20-point outputs from senior Jordan Bowden and junior John Fulkerson, along with junior Yves Pons’ second career double-double, propelled the Tennessee basketball team past Alabama, 69-68, on Tuesday in Tuscaloosa.

The win ended Tennessee’s (13-9, 5-4 SEC) three-game losing skid and was the first time the Vols overcame a 15-point deficit to win a game since knocking off Alabama in March of 2017.

The Vols were led by Fulkerson’s career-high 22 points, with 14 coming in the first half. Fulkerson also added a season-high-tying three blocks.

The day began with an outstanding personal-best in the high jump by junior Denia Hill-Tate, whose 1.67m mark; she also made the finals in the 55m hurdles, finishing sixth at 8.76.

Tennessee Vols Basketball falls behind early in 60-57 loss to Florida State

 

Tennessee Volunteers - UT VolsNiceville, FL – A poor shooting night and an early 12-point deficit brought the Tennessee Vols basketball team its first loss of the season in a 60-57 result against Florida State at the Emerald Coast Classic Friday night.

The Vols fell to 5-1 on the year, while the Seminoles improved to 6-1, winning their sixth consecutive contest.

Tennessee junior Yves Pons put in a solid performance in his sixth straight start, tallying 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Pons also recorded two blocks, marking his fifth multi-block game of the season and keeping his six-game block streak alive.
