Tennessee Titans, Kansas City Chiefs Series History

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans and the Kansas City Chiefs are historic rivals that played an integral role in the formation of the current NFL landscape.

In 1959, late Titans owner K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr. and the late Lamar Hunt, founder of the Chiefs, spearheaded the “Foolish Club,” a group of eight original American Football League teams that would begin play in 1960.

Tennessee Titans last game against New England Patriots

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In Week 10 of the 2018 season, the Tennessee Titans hosted the New England Patriots and won by a score of 34-10.

On the opening kickoff, WR Darius Jennings returned the ball 58 yards and helped set the tone for Tennessee. As the Titans offense took the field, QB Marcus Mariota constructed a seven-play, 40-yard scoring drive that resulted in a four-yard touchdown pass to TE Jonnu Smith, as Tennessee put up points early, 7-0.

New England’s offense took the field and responded with their own scoring drive.

In 35 games, the Titans are 18-17 against the Texans, including an 11-7 mark at Nissan Stadium and a 7-10 record at NRG Stadium.

In the last three seasons, the Titans and Texans have split the annual series, with the home team taking each game.

Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saints last Game

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In the team’ s first game under Interim Head Coach Mike Mularkey, the Tennessee Titans snapped a six-game losing streak on their way to a 34-28 overtime victory over the New Orleans Saints at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The game was quarterback Marcus Mariota’s first start since October 18th after spending two weeks sidelined with a knee injury. The rookie finished the contest 28-for-39, including four touchdowns and no interceptions, for a season-high 371 passing yards.

The clubs have met at least twice each year since Jacksonville began play as an expansion franchise in 1995. For the first seven seasons of the rivalry they played in the AFC Central, and for the last 18 years they have been members of the AFC South.

The teams have met a total of 50 times, with the Titans holding a 29-21 advantage. For eight consecutive seasons (2009–2016), the Titans and Jaguars split the annual series before Tennessee took both matchups in 2017 and 2018.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – The Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs are historic rivals that played an integral role in the formation of the current NFL landscape. In 1959, late Titans owner K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr. and the late Lamar Hunt, founder of the Chiefs, spearheaded the “Foolish Club,” a group of eight original American Football League teams that would begin play in 1960.

Adams’ Oilers played in Houston until moving to Tennessee in 1997, while Hunt’s original Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City in 1963. In 1970, the AFL and NFL merged, and the Oilers and Chiefs became members of the American Football Conference.

Last Meeting between Tennessee Titans, Carolina Panthers

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In Mike Mularkey’s Nissan Stadium debut as interim head coach, the Tennessee Titans failed to knock off the unbeaten Carolina Panthers as they fell to Carolina 27-10.

Tennessee fell behind 7-0 midway through the first stanza but came back to tie it on a 25-yard touchdown run by running back Dexter McCluster before the end of the quarter. After a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter by kicker Ryan Succop, the Titans trailed 14-10 at the half, but Carolina went on to score 13 unanswered second half points to put the game away.

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In Week 7 of the 2018 season, the Titans traveled to London to take on the Los Angeles Chargers and lost by a score of 20-19.

The Titans scored a field goal on their opening possession of the game, driving 55 yards on 11 plays. First down receptions were contributed by WR Tajaé Sharpe, RB Derrick Henry and RB Dion Lewis, before K Ryan Succop converted a 28-yard attempt. Tennessee got on the board early, 3-0.

Last Meeting between Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos

 

Tennessee TitansNashville, TN – In Week 14 of the 2016 season, the Tennessee Titans won their third-consecutive home game for the first time since the 2009 season with a 13-10 victory over the defending Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos at Nissan Stadium.

The run game for both teams proved to be the difference, as the Titans accumulated 180 yards on the ground and the Tennessee defense contained Denver to just 18 rushing yards—the fifth-lowest rushing yardage total allowed by the defense in franchise history.
