Northwest Lady Vikings have win slip away in final minute to Cheatham County in 42-40 loss

 

Northwest High School VikingsDover, TN – Northwest High School girls basketball team had a chance at its third win of the season, Monday, December 29th at the Bill Craig Memorial Gymnasium in the final day of the Stewart County Rebel Christmas Classic, but missed three throws and layups came back to haunt the Lady Vikings in a 42-40 loss to Cheatham County Central High School.

Tied 40-40, the Lady Vikings (2-13) had a chance to retake the lead with 1:40 left, with Dashia Huey going to the line to shoot a one-and-one free throw after being fouled, but she missed the front end of the attempt keeping the game tied.

Clarksville High Lady Wildcats overcome foul trouble to defeat Cheatham County to open Rebel Christmas Tournament

 

Clarksville High School WildcatsDover, TN – With two of its leading scorers and rebounds in foul trouble most of the afternoon, Saturday, December 27th at the Bill Craig Memorial Gymnasium, Clarksville High School’s girls basketball team got a lift from its perimeter players, as the Lady Wildcats defeated Cheatham County Central High School, 59-52 to open the Stewart County Rebel Christmas Tournament.

With Haley Bearden and Ta’Tayana Outlaw in foul trouble for Clarksville High (7-8) guards Ellie Treanton, JK Cummings and Hannah Goins picked up the scoring slack for the Lady Wildcats, as the trio combined for 40 of the team’s 59 points and all six of its shots from behind the three-point arc.

Kenwood Lady Knights loses 78-70 to Cheatham County in overtime

 

Kenwood High SchoolServall Termite & Pest ControlClarksville, TN – A desperation three at the buzzer forced Kenwood High School’s girls basketball team into overtime, Friday, November 21st, where they never truly recovered in a 78-70 loss to Cheatham County High School.

Kenwood (2-3) led 63-60 following two free throws from Jasmine Johnson, with 12.6 seconds left in regulation, giving the Lady Cubs one final chance to tie the game.

Cheatham County (3-2) brought the ball up the court quickly to get into their offensive set and into the hands of their leading scorer Savannah Worlund.

APSU Lady Govs Softball’s Lauren de Castro named to OVC First Team; Morgan Brewer and Paige Neely earn Second Team Honors

Ohio Valley ConferenceMartin, TN – Austin Peay State University Sophomore first baseman/pitcher Lauren de Castro saw her breakout season capped off Wednesday night by being named to the Ohio Valley Conference softball First Team, while junior Morgan Brewer and freshman Paige Neely earned second-team honors.

Neely also earned a spot on the All-OVC Newcomer team. The honors were announced Wednesday night at the OVC Softball awards reception in Martin, where the OVC Softball Tournament is being held.

Lady Govs golf team earns OVC Team Academic Achievement Award for third straight year

Austin Peay State UniversityClarksville, TN – For a third straight year, Austin Peay State University women’s golf team has been saluted with the Ohio Valley Conference Team Academic Achievement Award.

The award is presented annually in each Conference-sponsored sport to the member institution’s team with the greatest percentage of its eligible student-athletes who achieved a 3.25 grade-point average or higher—OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.  The Lady Govs golf team had seven of its student-athletes earn such distinction. As a team the Lady Govs golfers posted a 3.738 grade-point average in the fall and 3.640 in the spring. «Read the rest of this article»

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team lost its final Ohio Valley Conference game of the 2011 season Sunday afternoon at Cheryl Holt Field 4-3 against Southern Illinois Edwardsville.

For Austin Peay (12-40, 7-23 OVC) the loss marked the 10th one-or-two run loss for the Lady Govs this season – including five coming in conference play.

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Austin Peay State University’s softball team will close out its 2011 schedule this weekend by playing host to the Ohio Valley Conference’s newest member, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, for a three-game series at Cheryl Holt Field.

The series opens with a, 1:00pm, Saturday doubleheader and concludes Sunday with a 1:00pm, single game.

Lady Govs swept by Golden Eagles

Austin Peay State University GovernorsCookeville, TN – Austin Peay’s softball team gave up two four-run first innings to Tennessee Tech on Saturday afternoon on its way to being swept by the Golden Eagles by scores of 8-2 and 8-0.

In Game 1, Lady Govs (11-37, 6-20 OVC) sophomore starting pitcher Morgan Brewer gave up four hits – plus hit a batter – in the key opening inning, but two of the hits were tainted at best.

Smith’s walk-off lifts Lady Govs to split with OVC leading Eastern Illinois

Austin Peay State University GovernorsClarksville, TN – Senior Tiffany Smith led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk-off home run to cap the Austin Peay softball teams 3-2 come-from-behind victory and earn a split in its Ohio Valley Conference doubleheader against league leader Eastern Illinois, with the Panthers taking the nightcap, 7-2.

For Smith, it was her fourth home run of the season and first since March 4, a line drive over the left field fence off Panther starter Amber May, to cap the comeback after the Lady Govs (11-34, 6-17 OVC) who had fallen behind 2-0 after three innings.
